Ms. Henna packed her stuff and moved into my house till Rajan arrives. She worries too much that I might get into trouble. I feel like under observation all time. She sends an hour to hour activity mail to Rajan, this is too much. I can't even tell her I am going to party with Piku tonight. I messed up last party and I promised Piku that I'll have fun. Guess I just have to sneak out and get back before Ms. Henna wakes up.
"Ms. Henna?"
"yes."
"I have friend coming over for sleepover. I don't want to trouble you with all late-night chit chat of us and you have to be at work early."
"Rashi, spill the truth." Ms. Henna raised her eyebrow putting her coffee mug down.
"There's a party at city hall and piku invited me. I really want to go there. I can't let Rajan know because he will be worried. It's bookish party not scandalous teenage party."
"You can go if you want, you didn't have to lie or tell these many details. I trust you."
"Thank you, Ms. Henna."
"I'll drop you and your friend off. Get ready or else you'll be late."
"Please don't tell Rajan about this right now. Later, I'll confess but..."
"I won't."
"Thank you."
Texts from Piku
'you sneaking out?'
'let's cancel if you want. Sneak out never ends good.'
'I told truth. She will be dropping us at destination. See you soon.'
'See you soon then.... I am so happy....'
Everyone is happy and I don't have to lie. Can't wait for tonight. I'll have fun.
I got ready similar to Bryce Quinlan. I will nail my outfit at next party, tonight I'll go with black dress and red hair wig. I have to buy new props for next time. This is all exciting me for the first time since I came here. I miss this exciting feeling but it also scares me at the same time. There's been no update from Jay, I am worried about him. I know he felt alone but I never knew he could be hurting this much inside. I feel bad for not being there for him. Only if I could go back to India, I am sure I'll be helpful to him.
"Rashi... Piku is here already." Ms. Henna called out of blue.
"what?" I went downstairs to make my eyes believe her words.
Piku was standing right with Ms. Henna.
"we were coming to pick you up. How did you come? Your parents know?"
"calm down Rashi! Yes, my parents know. They dropped me off. I came early here because I don't want to be late. Also, I want to prep you for party. Last time you looked bit lost."
"I am fine today. Also, I need no preparation to be Bryce. That's queen inbuild behavior."
"what?" Ms. Henna seemed worried looking me like I am some alien landed on earth.
"Nothing. I meant to say is that I am ready. Let's go now." I took my shrug and went out first and checked message box if Jay texted or not.
"I call for shotgun." Piku ran as soon as Ms. Henna opened car door.
"I have to introduce you to some people that I met last time. They were so amazing. Also, I will change register both us of as permanent member. You will always be Bryce and I will always be Danika. If you need to change say it now before I register us."
"I am fine with Bryce."
"promise?'
"promise."
Piku seems so cheerful that I can't match up my energy to hers. I keep glancing my phone for Jay text to pop up. I am getting weird feeling about it but don't know what exactly this feeling is.
"Have fun girls and call me when your party gets over I'll pick you up."
"Thank you, Ms. Henna"
"you okay, Rashi?"
"yes, bit of social anxiety."
"let's go." Piku squeezed my hand and pulled me inside the gate.
