Mai Taniyama, in other words me, am sitting awkwardly at the office, waiting for my boss to come out and talk to this oddly familiar client. "Sorry for taking so long," Naru came out of his office, shutting the door quietly.
He sat on the arm chair across from the client, and took the folder from the client. "At our home, we're hearing voices in rooms when no ones in them. Doors are slamming by themselves, and people are being injured in the middle of the night while sleeping... It's just really bad. We really need your help..." he trailed off. Naru was silent, but just for a moment as he looked up. "We'll take your case. When would be the best time to go?" Naru asked him. "Thank you. Please come as soon as you can. Few people already left..." he trailed off. "Then we'll be there tomorrow," Naru told him. "Thank you again," he got up, and started walking to the door. He stopped then. "Oh yeah, I was wondering, do you happen to be Mai Taniyama?" He turns, looking at me. Uh oh... "Yes, although I'm wondering how you know," I stated, standing. My hand was behind my back, hand on the handle of the knife I was hiding there. "You match our teams wanted picture. Might want to skip, huh?" He said, mouth going up at the corner. "I'll be fine. I wonder about your team though?" I ask, mouth stretching into a smirk. "Chi, whatever," he scoffs, walking out of the building. My hand leaves my knife and I fix my shirt. "Honestly... out of all of them it had to be him..." I sighed, running my hand through my hair. "Mai, who was that?" Naru asks. "An old enemy. We knew each other as rivals two years ago. It's in the past, forget it," I say, smiling at him. "Rival?" he asks. "Forget it!" I raise my voice, smile disappearing. "I don't even want to try to remember. Just leave it," I mutter, walking back to the kitchen.
The next day, we were in the van, heading to the house. Monk and Ayako were sitting in the back with me. "Mai, are you sure you should go to this? You seemed to be on pretty bad terms with the client," Naru states, still looking over the case file. "I'll be fine. I already told you. I just hope they can keep a filter on what information they expose. I guess I'm more worried about them than myself," I laugh a bit, smirking at my own words.
"What do you mean, bad terms?" Monk asks. "Oh, that's right, we never told you. I may or may not have known the client as a rival in the past. Well, for him it seems it's still the present. Honestly, lose a fight to a girl once and they can't let it go," I muttered the last sentence. "Mai, just what did you do in the past to make a person that pissed off at you?" Monk asks, snickering. "We were in a one on one scheduled brawl and I kicked his ass three years ago. Because of countless other brawls with him and his team, organized or not, I was put on their wanted list. Oh yeah. I guess I should explain that one to all of you. HRs are highly guarded records that all official Teams have. The most common one is the Wanted lists. These are the records of who the team see's as enemies," I explain, sounding board. "Just how have you come to know all this, Mai?" Naru asks, glancing back at me. "I used to be on an official team. Two years ago there were rumors floating around about an extremely strong Team named the Black Death going around. My Team was the cause of the rumors. We were the Black Death. One of us died, so we split," I explained. On the last sentence, my fist clenched. The rest of the ride was silent.
There was a group of boys waiting outside the rather large house when we got there. We all got out and stretched, and all the boys glared at me. "Come now you're not still pissed at me are you? So petty," I smirked at them, leaning against the van. Monk and Ayako were not used to this kind of behavior from me, so they stared wide eyed. "Now listen here. Just because your Team disbanded, doesn't mean you're off our hit list," growled one of the boys. I flinched at his words. "That's enough. I'm here on a job so we need to forget this. Can we put this behind us until my job is over?" I ask, running a hand through my hair. "On one condition. We fight after you're done here," one of the snap. "Fine. It's not like I care if you want to get hurt again. Oh, I was wondering when you'd show up. Finally," I grumble as the client, James Kaisi walks out. Naru takes over from here.
"Hello again. I was wondering if you set up the rooms we needed?" He asks, getting straight to the point. Well, that's Naru for you.
