Chapter 3: She Was Totally Checking Me OutRowan POV
I watched as Aspen slipped through the crowd. Her ponytail slightly loose. She was so pretty. I wanted to talk to her more. Once I lost sight of her, I turned on my heels to Alaska, "Why'd you say that? Jackson has fifth hour lunch."
Alaska rolled her eyes, "Honestly, Ro. I know you're nice, but you're bein' a bit too nice for my likin'." I raised my eyebrows at her and she huffed, "She's that girl. Ya know?"
I searched my brain for a 'that girl' but found no one, "No, I don't know." My answer caused Alaska to glare at me. She walked faster to the lunch room and I followed faster, "Slow down. Slow down. Slow down, don't be mad." I laughed as she did the opposite of what I asked.
I wondered what she meant by 'that girl'. Aspen didn't seem to socialize a lot so I don't think she had many friends. But, if she didn't have many friends what was she know for? How'd she become 'that girl'? I sat down at our lunch table without getting food. I rubbed my hands together and closed my eyes willing myself to focus. Aspen Chantelle. Aspen Chantelle. Aspen Chantelle. Wait. I suddenly remembered the question I wanted to ask her in first hour.
"Alaska, is she related to Luca?"
"That's only a side factor. You're still missin' the main point." Alaska had always been vague with her explanations. It'd only annoy me sometimes, like it was now.
"Tell me Alaska," I laid my cheek down on the cafeteria table and begged her with my cutest cat eyes, "Please? You know I'm slow. Don't make me suffer." Alaska always gave in once I degraded myself, not that I did it often. If she wasn't both asexual and aromatic, I would think she was into that sexual degrading thingy. Maybe with a hint of BDSM with her as the dom. Yeah, I could totally see that.
"Fine. Since you are already self aware, I'll spare you. Ya know Jackson's girlfriend, Amari?" I nodded my head and she continued, "Well that girl is Amari's twin sister. Although Amari stopped tellin' people that they're related she keeps telling everyone how homophobic that girl is."
I rolled my eyes at Alaska's 'that girl', "Her names Aspen and, how is she homophobic? She seemed nice to me." Well, that was kinda a lie. I couldn't really call her nice. More like quiet. Kinda antisocial. Maybe a bit stand-offish. But still that doesn't mean she was a homophobe.
Alaska continued, "Apparently, their parents kicked Luca out for bein' Pan. Aspen-" she put emphasis on Aspen's name "-helped them kick Luca out. Amari was the only one who helped Luca." She nodded her head and sipped her strawberry juice. There was no doubt that she completely believed the story. She was Jackson's childhood friend after all. She'd always tell me the story of how they'd met. They'd been together since kindergarten after the teacher paired them together to be cubby partners. Jackson had taken up all of cubby space and Alaska had yelled at him for it, which resulted in him crying and running to snitch to the teacher. She got in trouble and tried to beat Jackson up after school that day. He instead offered her his Pokémon cards and ran away. They had become friends the next day, which I wasn't surprised about. Jackson was definitely a sub. Before Alaska had realized that she was a complete ace, she and Jackson had even dated. It didn't last long though, according to the both of them.
"What'd Luca say about it?" I asked her. She also knew Luca. He worked at the flower shop Alaska's parents owned. I'd seen him there a couple of times when I came for Alaska, but we never got close enough to be friends.
"Nothin'. I mentioned her a couple of times but he won't say anythin'. He just gets all quiet. Ya know how intuitive I am though. I can practically smell the sadness in his eyes."
