It was warm out for the first time in days since summer officially began and the popular shops and markets were opening up and news hosts ran their circuit of expecting swarms of people that late-June morning.
Opportunity for business was on the minds of shop-owners, fun at the park and the lightening of wallets for friends and couples, and for one particular girl, a sweet treat was what she desired most that day.
"Callie!" A soft but firm voice called in a frustrated tone. "Work with me here." Bella's long messy brown ringlets fell across her shoulder as she pleaded with her young Boston terrier pup.
The red-brick building stood impressively at her back while a summer breeze caught her figure and swept up a yellow post-it from her grip.
"Oh, dammit." She muttered before reclaiming it from the cracked sidewalk. A sigh slipped past her mouth when yet another object clattered to the ground.
Bella's recently dropped wallet appeared in her view. "Here, hun." Bella trailed her eyes up from the hand to the face. Blue eyes and a dimple greeted her.
"Oh! Thank you so much." Bella thanked the girl who looked to be her age maybe older at around seventeen or eighteen. She noticed the girl shared curls like her own so similar though lighter almost golden in the sun. Also a couple inches taller than Bella who stood at a proud 5'2.
Golden girl smiled again and caught sight of Callie who was excitedly wagging her tail at a newcomer.
"Oh my gosh, your pup is so cute!" Bella rearranged her purse on her shoulder and tugged at her beret style hat before shyly replying.
"Thanks, her name is Callie." Bella hesitated before deeming her safe. "Could you hold Callie for a moment while I fix my bag?"
The girl nodded. "I'm Gen by the way. I live just a few blocks over on Woodway Street." Bella thought she was nice and noticed Gen wore a jean skirt with a gray t-shirt tucked in which contrasted with her own corduroy yellow shorts and floral spegetti strap top.
"I'm Bella." She introduced when she finished replacing the fallen objects back in their place.
"Do you live around here?" Gen asked as she handed Bella back the leash.
"Yeah, right in this brick burnout." She joked, taking a step towards the direction of the shops.
(Add more dialogue, like gen is applying to a local college, just got moved in, and has family around. Gen learns Bella works at a bakery which her family owns.)
Gen saw her motion and nodded, smiling. "Well thanks for the time with Callie and it was lovely to meet you. Hope to see you around." She bid, letting Bella get to her destination.
Part of Bella wanted to keep talking, since it was rare to meet new people her age, and especially since Gen seemed like a warm girl, but she also craved ice cream. Bella laughed a little at the thought of her balancing social interaction with a cold treat, but turned towards Gen.
"It was nice meeting you too. And likewise." Bella smiled and waved as the golden curls started to depart. "Bye, Gem."
She realized her mistake too late to correct it since Gen let out a laugh. "Love that nickname, thank you."
"It was an accident, sorry." Bella closed her eyes solemnly, feeling embarrassed. If only she would have left for ice cream already...
"No, seriously I think it's cute, I like it a lot. Really." Bella felt better about it and they shared a smile. Waving goodbye, Bella left Gen and made her way towards quelling her craving.

Callie seemed a bit calmer after letting off energy as they walked, and for that, Bella was grateful. The ice cream shop was one familar view for Bella and many other kids, teens, and adults alike around the area. It had been around for decades and recently was passed down a generation; from one Daniel Coppes to his son, Benjamin Coppes. Everyone loved the ice cream there since it was homemade and used a hand crafted recipe formulated by Daniel's grandfather. Nothing beat it.
The slightly worn sign showcased their name: "Coppes' Creamery" which made Bella smile as she was finally able to get a chance to stop by since break started.
However, the next thing she noticed was how crowded it was and her smile dropped. She was gonna have to wait a while, wasn't she? Sighing, she grabbed a spot in line and prayed Callie would be patient. Maybe part of that prayer was for herself as well...
(Bella Meets Aaron in line, Benjamin and gen are a couple later on. Keep story under 15 chapters)

"You're cute when You're mad." He teased. Bella raised her brows, caught offgaurd, but replied smoothly. "Oh really? Then I must be gorgeous because I'm livid." She frowned with furrowed brows and a creased forehead, trying to look mad.
"I will always save you a hug for that one someday when no longer are we apart."
