Ozan was sitting next to Esra's bed in the hospital. He was holding her hand and gently stroking her face, urging with his soft voice for her to wake up.
"Esra'm, please wake up, hayatim please wake up."
Ozan realized in that moment how true that pet name was "hayatim- my life," she truly was.
Ozan continued with a panic in his voice, "I told you if it happened to you- if you hit your head like I did, I would be by your side and never leave even for a second."
Ozan broke a little as he continued, "I... I just never thought I would have to keep that promise- I never thought..."
Ozan trailed off as his fear and anxiety took hold of his throat. He couldn't speak, all he could do was take deep breaths. His world felt like it was imploding and all he wanted to do was scream. But he held it in, he held everything in. He swallowed his despair and buried it deep within his chest. The grief though was heavy and he leaned his head down, resting on Esra's hands trying to find the strength to hold it all.

It had been almost a day of no movement. The doctors kept telling Ozan that Esra's body just needed time to heal. They weren't worried but she wasn't theirs to worry about. She was his and he was hers. Always had been and always will be. The encouragement from the doctors was wasted on him. The only thing he needed was Esra to open her eyes. That was it.

For two days Ozan never left Esra's hands let alone her side.
Then on the third day in the morning, Esra finally opened her eyes. It was a mere squint but Ozan saw it.
He restrained himself from grabbing Esra for a bear hug as he knew Esra was in a delicate condition so instead he smiled and stroked her hair.
With relief and tears in his eyes Ozan said, "Esra'm? Hos Geldin."
With Esra's eyes barely opened, she felt disoriented, but she saw Ozan was there, and that she was in a bed she didn't know with loud noises everywhere. She felt dizzy and her head throbbed.
"Ozan?" She said in a panic.
Ozan seeing her distress shushed her while saying calmly, "You're ok Esra, shhh, you are okay."
"Where am I?"
"You are in the hospital but you are okay. Let me get a nurse."
Before he could get up, Esra grabbed his hand tighter not letting him move from her bed.
Esra said confused, "what happened?"
Ozan responded truthfully, "im not sure. You hit your head - let me get the doctor."
Esra stops him, "no stay, I think I remember- I fainted."
Ozan although worried agreed to stay. He continued to stroke her hair.
He said gently, "What else do you remember?"
Esra still hazy asked, "I don't know I ...did the doctor tell you everything?"
Ozan nods confused, "yes."
"Is he okay?" she reached for her stomach, "I'm sorry I should have told you but is he okay?"
Ozan confused asked, "Is who okay? The doctor?"
Esra shook her head slightly and tried to get the words, "Ozan is the baby okay? Is he? I remember I felt a sharp pain then I fell – I was talking to my boss and I Just felt a sharp pain and then it went dark. Tell me our baby is okay?"
