Jahniqui's POV

Today my return to the real world is inevitable. Why is my life such a mess? Waking up sometime around 4a.m. in the morning I couldn't go back to sleep so to do something productive I packed my suitcase. I had already book a return ticket for Friday, and unfortunately I had to cancel and move it up to today Tuesday. Way to crush my plans of laying low for the rest of the week people.

Xavier promised me a ride to the airport after I texted him. My phone was practically full with 53 missed calls from my boss. Ok that's a all time record and creepy might I add. What could he possibly want? 89 missed calls from Leanna add that to the tons of messages she left me. Totally expected.

Two of the messages did cause me to stick a pin. One from my boss and the other from the new client guy. My boss was presumptuous bad I'll give him that. Addressing me by my first name like we are friends.

"Jahniqui look, am sorry I pushed so much work on you and for yelling at you the way I did. But it doesn't excuse the fact that you were a tad disrespectful in the conference room. Wherever you are am worried and so is your friend. I can't survive this place without you here. So please call me or if you don't wish to speak to me at least have the decency to call your friend. She's a wreck here."

I'd say concern and hurt was very evident in that message. It brought me back to what my brother said about him liking me. A part of that message touched where it shouldn't have. "I can't survive this place without you here". What's up with that? I need to find out and soon.

Anyways, the text from Mr. Kelly was rather enlightening and informative. All the T's crossed and I's dotted I must say. It was firm and straight forward but long.

"Listen Ms. Valentine before I gained knowledge that you were the sister of one of my investors, I respected you as a young and hardworking lawyer. Whatsoever you chose to roll off that tongue of yours should often be contained at times. I don't know how you figured am 'Gay' but it would be highly appreciated if you kept that a secret. Many of my clients are of the same nature and don't know that little old me is you know..... So do me a favor when you return I'd like to have dinner so we can discuss my case. You have the best record at that company. 14 cases and have never lost one. So I guess you are the best at this. Just so you know my respect is not given it's earned. Give me a call prior to your return."

A massive grin on my face emphasized my gloating. Priding myself at what I do, in my head I danced gleefully. Yep my record is stellar. When your trained well all you give is the best I guess.

(A couple hours later....)

Serious Dejá vu hit me as I coursed through the airport in New York. The place reminds me of the mistakes i've made. Scrambling for my phone I dialed my brother's number. I promised him I'd call when I landed. The poor guy didn't want me to go but understood that I have a job to attend to.

He told me about his horrid encounter with Leanna. How she accused him of coming to cover my ass when am wrong. That was not called for and she was out of line. What I do should not affect them? Then again everything I do seems to have a direct effect on my counterparts. Shouldn't surprise me a sh*t.

At present my outfit was a black pencil skirt, white long sleeve top buttoned at the front and my black Jimmy Choo's, perfect attire for work so I guess I'll stop by. It was almost time for lunch when I arrived at the firm.

Crossing the lobby to the elevator with my luggage in hand, i got some stares from the people there. "Haven't you guys seen a damn suitcase before?" I muffled silently. The elevator door opened and I hurriedly pressed the button for my floor. I was going to get the answer to my question about that message. Not to mention that internet article.

Stepping out the steele doors Bridgette the receptionist mouthed 'welcome back'. I wondered why she was whispering so I went over to her desk.

"Hey what's with the whispering?"

"The boss in a really really sour disgruntled mood again. He been that way since you left." Bridgette said in hushed tones wagging her eyebrows.

More reasons why I need to find out his problem with me. Opening my office door and dumping my luggage on the chair while pulling my suitcase to the side, I slowly preambulate the entire passage length to his office.

Knocking I heard a soft 'come in'. Entering the room I closed the door behind me. His desk was piled high with files and his eyes focused on the laptop screen. Lifting his head a gasp escaped his mouth when he saw me.

"You seem a little surprised to see me here. Why is that?" I asked taking a seat in one of the chairs infront his desk.

"I wasn't expecting you here until next week. Seeing that you are a stubborn woman and doesn't like to be told what to do." He replied running his thumb across his lower lip with pen in hand.

God he look so sexy and delicious right now. The sleeves of his light pink shirt pushed up to his elbow. I looked away to clear my thoughts, shouldn't be thinking about him this way. I am supposed to hate him. "So you sent me a message while I was away correct?" He nodded. "And I found it rather presumptuous and disturbing, unless there is a reason behind your choice of words." He gave me a questioning look.

"A specific line intrigued me and what I'd like to know is why you can't function without me here?"

I knew i nailed the son of a bitch when his mouth dropped open and his hazel eyes went wide from shock. The look was one of 'deer caught in the headlights'. I smiled wickedly at his obvious discomfort.

Clearing his throat he tries to speak twice but nothing came out. Easing out of the chair I perched myself on the edge of his desk. "You like me don't you?" I asked softly and seductively. Now he was utterly mortified. He whetted my curiosity when he failed to respond.

Pushing back the chair he stood up and covered his face with both hands then ran them through his already tousled hair. Those checks of his were a bright crimson red. Busted, I thought. Slowly I walk over to where he was and place my right index finger on his lips as he was about to say something.

"It's okay. No need to be shy. Although your cute when you are. I'm flattered that a supercilious , truculent, and domineering asshole like you have a heart. As a matter of fact it would be nice to stop giving me those 'i want to strip you' looks at work they are uncomfortable. Oh, and please try and 'function' without me here cause I won't be here forever baby.

Turning on my heels, head high I walked out like I owned the placed. Am such a bad ass. That's how you stun a guy bitches.

Where was all this courage and bitchiness coming from? I sort of like the new me. But will I regret this in the future? Am obviously trampling a persons feeling here. Not cool.
