>>>>CHAPTER 35<<<<

>>>>Beyond My Control<<<<

"Neji... Let's fight."

-Hinata Hyuga vs Neji Hyuga-

As the fight began, Lee noticed that the stance both participants had taken was identical.

"They have the same Hyuga style, after all..."

"Hyuga style?" Sakura questioned, raising an eyebrow as she glanced toward the bowl haired boy.

"The strongest school of taijutsu in Konoha." Lee explained. "I've mentioned it before, I'm sure... That the strongest genin is a member of my own team! I was referring to Neji Hyuga!"

The fight continued, Neji managing to get in multiple hits and Hinata struggling to keep up. She had managed to hit him once, but it was to no avail.

"Did she get him?!" Sakura asked.

"No... It’s just a scratch." Naruto said, slightly annoyed. He didn’t like Neji. He was cocky, rude, and annoying.

"But a scratch is all it would take." Lee said.

Guy then went on to explain the Hyuga’s style of fighting, and how they target the chakra network and internal organs.

Usagi tuned out halfway, and the strangest thing happened. When Neji was hit, Usagi felt a pang of sadness. 'What was that...? Her attacks are having no effect whatsoever, so why am I...'

Usagi was snapped out of her thoughts when Hinata coughed up a large amount of blood. She was confused. Why was she in such poor condition and Neji was almost untouched? Was the difference in their skills really that drastic?

Neji then showed her that he had cut off all chakra flow to her arm, right from the beginning. All Hinata’s attacks had done nothing.

As Kakashi explained what the chakra points were, he mentioned that he, and Usagi, could not see them.

Sakura noticed that her eyes kept being mentioned, so she decided to question her Sensei.

"Kakashi-Sensei, you keep mentioning Usagi’s eyes... Is that her rinnegan?"

Usagi and Kakashi glanced at each other, and the girl simply nodded.

"Yes, it is." Kakashi explained. "Usagi also has a very advanced eye dojutsu, just like the sharingan and byakugan."

"... What's that?" Naruto asked.

[My kekkei genkai. Were you not listening when I explained this in the forest of death?]

"... Uh... Maybe?"

Usage sighed. [Just watch the match.]

And so all attention was turned back to the fight, which Hinata was losing.

But even though her win was impossible, she kept on getting back up. "I-I never go back on my word... Because that's my shinobi way too!"

Usagi watched on in shock. It didn't make sense to her. 'Why is she still fighting? She'll die if she keeps going...'

As Hinata readied herself for another attack, she coughed up more blood.

And yet she still stood back up and assumed her fighting stance.

But it was useless.

"Don't you know when to quit?" Neji taunted as Hinata fell to the ground once again. "From the start, your attacks have been useless."

Hayate stepped in to stop the battle, but Naruto yelled out. "Don't stop it!!"

And then, something utterly amazing happened.

Hinata stood back up again.

"Why are you getting up?" Neji asked, equally as confused as Usagi. "If you push too far, you really will die..."

"Th-This isn't over yet..." Hinata wobbled, but stood strong.

"You're not fooling anyone. I can see with these eyes... It's taking all your strength just to stand. You were burdened from birth with the destiny of the Hyuga clan’s main branch. You've hated and punished yourself for your own weakness and frailty... But you can't change your nature... Or your fate. But you need not suffer any more. Be at peace."

"But... You're wrong, Neji... I can see it now... That even more than me... It's you who is torn and suffering... Caught between the destinies of the main branch and cadet branch of our clan!"

That last sentence was enough. Neji snapped and charged at Hinata one last time, to kill her once and for all.

But before he could reach, a crowd of jonin jumped in and stopped him.

"Enough Neji!" Guy scolded his student. "Before this began, you swore you wouldn't drag the issue you have with the family's main branch into this!"

Neji was still pissed off. "Well... Why is it that the other jonin are getting involved? Special treatment for the main branch, eh?"

It was then Hinata fell to the floor, coughing up even more blood.

"Hinata!" Lee, Naruto and Sakura all crowded the girl, while Usagi stood back, giving her some space.

"Hinata! Hey, are you alright?!" Naruto looked at the girl.

"She doesn't look so good." Sakura commented. "Her face is so pale..."

'I don't understand...'
Usagi looked down at the girl, who had now passed out.

"Hey." Neji called out to Naruto. "A couple of words of advice... A true shinobi would have too much class to make a spectacle of himself by cheering during a serious match. And one more thing. You may as well accept who you are. Once a failure, always a failure!"

Naruto stood back up. "You wanna try me?"

The usual cocky smirk made its way onto Neji’s face, irking Naruto further.

The blonde charged at Neji, but was stopped by both Lee and Usagi.

"What are you doing?!"

"I understand almost painfully well what you are feeling, Naruto..." Lee explained his reasoning for stopping him. "But we have to limit our battles to the confines of the scheduled fights. The prospect of seeing a failure defeat a genius through sheer willpower... It really makes you look forward to the final rounds, eh? Even though his opponent could very well be me! But even if it's you in the finals, Naruto... I'll have no regrets!"

"... Whatever. I get it, ok?!" Naruto clenched his fists. He really wanted to beat up the guy, but Lee had convinced him otherwise... But one question still remained. "Usagi... Why did you stop me?"

The red haired girl froze and thought about it... Why did she stop him?

[Because he's my friend.] Was the conclusion Usagi came to.

"How can you call a jerk like that your friend?! You saw what he did to Hinata!"

'How do I explain this to an idiot...?' Usagi pondered before finally figuring out the best way to explain this. [Naruto, do you know why I quit the chunin exams?]

"You said it was 'cause you couldn't be bothered." Naruto grumbled.

[It's truly because if I fought, I would have done the exact same thing as Neji.]

"What do you mean-" Naruto was cut off by Hinata suddenly coughing up some more blood.

The medics quickly rushed in. "At this rate, she won't even last ten minutes! Get her to the emergency room right now!"

[I would have killed my opponent.] Naruto's eyes widened in shock. Whether it was from understanding the statement or just reading it, we may never know.

As Hinata was carried away, Naruto bent down, and dipped his fingers in her blood, and glared at Neji, who was watching curiously.

"I vow... To win!!"

Cool speech, but was the blood really necessary?

[If you wish to die so much, just kill yourself. It'll be less painful.] Usagi shoved her notebook in Naruto’s face.

"Whose side are you on?!" Naruto yelled as they made their way up the stairs.

She didn't answer the question, but in her head, the answer was clear.

She was on Neji’s side.

Both he and Usagi were cursed. They never asked to be cursed, they never wanted it, but curses were given to them anyway.

Neji’s had curse turned him into a hate filled person, whereas Usagi’s curse turned her into a fear filled person.

Both let their emotions drive them.

But unlike Neji, Usagi’s emotions made her weak.

Scared. Usagi is scared of herself.

All she was after all was a curse, and there was no changing that.

AN/ You’re not a curse Usagi I love you TT^TT

The themes in this book are actually quite dark, which is something that’s not really shown much in the first part, or pre-shippuden part. I’m writing chapter 50-something now, and wow it’s so dark compared to these chapters. Even back when Usagi was young, I didn’t really go into much detail because she was like 4 years old and innocent, but reflecting back to her past from her 16 year old perspective is uh… well a lot happened.

So that’s what you have to look forward to with this series. Dark reminiscing on the past, dark thoughts (from multiple characters ooo), murder, who the hell is Nagato, and more.

If what a person writes says anything about their personality, I’m kinda fucked. >.<

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I hope you look forward to what’s yet to come!
