"T minus 5." The voice of the television announcer echoed inside the bunker. The rocket's operating system started.
T-minus 4."
All the manipulators have successfully connected to the sensors of the Retriever.
"T-minus 3"
"T-minus 2"
The engine is ready and the ground shook together with the machine's vibration.
"T-minus 1"
The rocket took off the Earth, bringing the Retriever into the vast space.
We designed the Retriever to gather the wandering debris of the space satellites that exploded over three months ago because of the unexpected collisions between the man-made satellites.
We announced the project all around the world to reduce casualties of the garbages that continually threatened us. They agreed to build bunkers where the people will stay as the Retriever gathers the space debris.
I am comforting my child, Yasmin. She is really scared.
"Dad." she said. "Is everything going to be alright?
"Yes darling," I said. Everything will be fine."
Suddenly, my phone rang. I answered the call and it's from the control room.
"Hello." I said
"Jed, this is Neo." Neo said. "There's a problem here in the control room. We need your help.Hurry!"
Without thinking twice, I scurried fast and made my way up to the control room through the elevator. I entered the passcode 892340 to the security lock and opened the door.
Everyone inside the room are panicking for a reason I don't know.I ran towards my working block.
"What's going on?" I asked Neo.
"The Retriever..."he said. "It failed."
"What? But how?!" I replied.
"The carrying capacity is not enough to carry all the debris."
"No way!" I screamed. "We studied the all the debris. They are all made up of strong aluminum."
"Yeah." he said. "But a large amount of plutonium was detected present by the retriever in one of the debris."
I sighed. Was here anything wrong with the Retriever? We did our best because we knew from the start that it will be for our own good. Then, we heard something exploding from above. The retriever exploded, with the debris inside it. Then, the whole bunker felt the impact of the remnants falling on the roof. Everything went dark. I scampered my way towards the bunker to find Yasmin though I can't see anything. But it's too late, the bunker collapsed. Something hard hit my head. I slowly closed my eyes, knowing only one thing. Everything is over.
