***POV Beatrix***
I had been working at the Leaky Cauldron for a month now and it was officially December. Today, I had two missions: find Tom a present and see if I could learn anything more about this "Peter Black." I decided to take my total of 16 galleons and ask Mr. Tom if he knew any good book shops. It was a Saturday Morning. I only had Saturday's and Sunday's off from work but it was more than enough time for me. I had left the orphanage at 9 an unusual time for me to "disappear," but none the less I had too. Tom had revealed to me after a few work shifts that the illusion wasn't working so my next brilliant idea was to "convince" Mrs.Cole that this was ok. It hadn't been easy. I had had to memorize and preform a persuasion spell on Mrs. Cole. The concept had been easy enough but my execution of the task was well... a bit sloppy.
"Mr. Tom?" I called over the bar.
"Right here little lass," Tom replied. "Now what are you doing here today?"
"Looking for a good magic bookstore," I answered. "I was wondering if you happened to know any."
"Well you could try looking in Flourish and Blotts," Mr. Tom answered. "They have every book from basic magic to muggle books."
"Thanks, Mr. Tom," I asked, "and I'd hate to bother you, but could you maybe open the passage?"
"Sure thing little lass," Mr. Tom said pulling out his wand. I followed him to the back and watched him tap on the wall three times in a specific order. The walls spread apart revealing Diagon Alley. It was just as I remembered it, nothing had changed really. The people were the same, the shops were as packed as ever, and everyone was happy. I missed this place. Mom used to shop for herbs in a shop down here and now I was back. Granted I hadn't known anyone was a wizard or witch before.
I looked around the busy square and started down the way to Flourish and Blotts, I figured Tom would want a spell book of his own instead of using mine all the time. I came to a stand still in front of the shop's window. The store was covered with hundreds of books containing millions of spells. After some browsing, I stumbled across The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection. This looks promising, well this looks like my best choice. I preceded to the front desk and bought the book for one galleon. Now on to my next mission: to find more information on Peter.
***POV Tom***
Beatrix had pretty much disappeared. At first, I'd feared they had taken her away from me, but yet all her things remained in her room. Mrs. Cole wasn't concerned in the least that Beatrix was gone. In fact, no one had noticed at all; no one except me. where'd you go Beatrix? please, please be alright.
***POV Beatrix***
I decided the best place to search for information would be St. Mungo's Hospital's library since they would have all the birth records. I wandered into the almost deserted library.
Walking over to the librarian's desk, I asked, "Do you perhaps have the birth records of the Black Family?"
"Fifth shelf on the left," the librarian answered.
"Thank you," I responded and went over to the shelf. It didn't take me long to find it. The book was bound in black leather with the word, Black Family, written on the binding. opening the book I saw their Family tree. This particular one started with the year 1845 with Sirius Black and ended with the current generation: Lucretia Black and Orion Black, in particular. Apparently, their father is Arcturus Black and they have three uncles: Lycoris, Regulus, and... Peter! That's it Peter! I nearly jumped out of my chair at the discovery. I turned page after page until I came to Peter's birth certificate. He must be living in the Black mansion, but how to get there...
As I stepped from the hospital, I looked up at the clock on the wall, 3:00 pm. I should get back, Tom's probably worried. I should have left a note...
***POV Tom***
Beatrix had been gone for almost the entire day now. Where is she? When she gets back, I'm going to... I punched the wall almost to the point of tears. As much as I hated to admit it, I needed her. She was the only one who cared. I need her. I heard the window slide open behind me and without another thought, turned around and hugged Beatrix. I felt two arms slip around me.
"I'm okay, Tom, I'm okay," Beatrix whispered. "I'm sorry I should have left a note, but I found something." I looked up and saw Beatrix smiling with a glint in her eye, a glint that made those deep pale blue eyes shine. Beatrix pulled out a small slip of paper with an address written on it as well as some other information.
"What's this?" I asked examining the slip as Beatrix rearranged some things in her room.
"It's an address to the Black Mansion," Beatrix answered.
"Why would you need this?" I asked.
"The man from before, he... he knew something about my parents, Tom. I need to find him," Beatrix answered.
"I'll come with you," I commanded. Beatrix turned around and looked at me.
"Tom..." Beatrix gave me a smile and gave me a hug. "Thank you for everything."
"Anything, anything for you," I whispered in a nearly audible voice and Beatrix's hug tightened.
