Chapter 4: Remember
"A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes." - Mohandas Gandhi
******
Darkness. Emptiness. It is like being in a gapping hole of sorrow and pain. What on earth is this place?
...
Lying supine and turning uncomfortably during her sleep, the petite girl's eyes snapped open. A dream, she surmised, but it felt so real eventhough she can't remember what her dream was about. Her vision blurry at first, started to adjust after several blinks she had induced. She looked around the place, it wasn't any where familiar. Then again, what is? She looked at her hands, the stray lock of her hair. She noted they were pink. Pink! For crying out loud! Are people supposed to have such vibrant hair color? If this is her natural hair color, she didn't know. She couldn't even remember her damn name. Who is she? Does she have a family? Friends? Is she working? What type of job does she have? Eventhough she tried to remember anything, nothing comes out. She growl inwardly. This is pretty much annoying. She looked at the closed door waiting for someone to enter. She didn't remember walking towards this house so someone could have brought her here, right?
After what seems to be an hour, the door slightly went ajar and a man, approximately in his late thirties entered the vicinity. He is wearing a brown top with dark blue pants. The woman noted that there are several scars on the man's face, arm and neck. She wondered if his entire body was also filed with different scars. The man noticed her gaze so he sole to address her, "You are finally awake. Good to see you back Kira!"
"Kira?" the pink-haired asked in confusion. Was that suppose to be her name?
The man rises a brow, "Don't tell me you don't remember who you are? Damn, was that mission too tough? I thought you are one of the best in our organization."
"I don't know what your talking about? What mission? What organization?"
"Jeez kiddo, your target had really hit you hard, ne? Well for starters, we are from an underground organization of assassins. Unlike ninjas and other mercenaries who accepts different type of jobs, our organization only accepted assassination missions. We only work in the dark, no one of us really knows what our leader looks like. Missions are given either by messenger birds or a messenger like me. When we receive a task, asking questions aren't allowed. We are expected to execute the missions without questioning our boss. Several assassins like yourself are stationed at different parts of the nations. Actually you are the best one of them, I just find it weird how you were this injured, not to mention you failed to kill the target."
The pink-haired doesn't like the idea of failing, "How come I failed? Who's the target."
The man shrugged, "I don't know, messengers are only asked to deliver the package containing the information about the assassin's next target. We aren't allowed to look at the package, so I didn't know who it was. You contacted me after you run away from your target barely alive. I was the one who brought you here."
She nodded in apprehension, "Thank you messenger-san." she eyed the katana and cloak at the nearby chair, "Are those mine?"
"Yes those are yours." he looked at her hair and move his head sideways in disapproval. "By the way, that hair won't do." he took out a pair of scissors and a clothe from the drawer. "Let's cut them back to your usual style." the man approached her and coax her to sit on the chair. Kira sat on the chair, her gaze were fixed on the window across her. The man wrap the clothe around the girl and started cutting her hair. "We also need to recolor this hair, pink is so conspicuous, no wonder you had failed on your last mission."
