"Press forward, Chaotix! We got them on the run!" Vector declared as he and his team led the assault in ruins of new Megapolis along with Sonic, Areion, and a still somber Knuciles against the newly formed New Dark Egg Legion.
Sonic was busy taking down several members of the legion with highspeed tackles and Homing Attacks before rolling into cover behind a broken wall to avoid getting shot by some legionaries. Areion was just occupied on his sides with a squad of legionaries piloting Egg Pods and firing lasers at him, it wasn't much a surprise due to Dr. Eggman having placed him a high threat level with Sonic.
"Wonder Trap!" Areion moved at blurring speeds with afterimages trailing behind him and portraying his movements, easily distracting the legionaries to losing sight of him that they were completely unaware that he was above him with the Defender Magnum in hand and freedallimg towards them. The brunette teen inserted a green Chaos Drive into one of the blue barrel slots on the back before spinning the gear and took aim as swirling green wind appeared in front of the barrels before going inside them "Trigger Aerobuster!" he pulled the trigger to fire multiple shots of green pressurized air which sent the Egg Pods to the ground and knocked the legionaries off them then landing amongst them with a crouch while spinning the blaster with a smile.
"Already? Seriously, did you guys really need us? These guys are a total joke!" Sonic said with a smirk, then he turned to see Knuckles with a forlorn look on his face "....and I note you're not laughing."
"Because I'm responsible for them."Knuckles said, vaulting over the wall while taking cover and proceeding to advance through the battlefield.
Sonic rolled his eyes as he ran along the echidna "Oh man, don't start this again..."
"It was my actions as Enerjak that forced them to make an alliance with Dr. Robotnik!"
"You were under a spell, Knux. And you didn't make them sell themselves out, they chose to do that."
"But I took their cybernetics away. And they're almost all that's left of my people. I have to try to help them, I need to get to their leader!" Knuckles pulled ahead of Sonic, knocking away any form of opposition in his way with the hedgehog shaking his head at the echidna's words of self-condemnation.
Areion landed nearby with his D-Magnum holstered to his waist and his arms crossed "Is he still blaming himself about all this?"
"Yup, that guy's as stubborn as ever." Sonic said.
"Guess I'm going to have that chat after this." Areion thought.
"Be sure to have enough elbow room at that time." Emerl said.
"Let's catch up to Knuckles and make sure he's okay." Areion suggested.
Sonic simply shrugged his shoulders "Pretty much an extra part of the plan."
__________________________________________ Back at the Freedom Fighters HQ, things were pretty much normal until the Star Posts suddenly activated by themselves and open up a portal. Tails called Rotor over to help see what the problem only to be attacked by something from within the portal, only to discovers that they're under attack their evil dimensional counterparts along with Fiona Fox.
"A-Anti-Rotor! W-What?" Rotor asked, diving out of the way of the blast from said counterparts' gauntlets.
"It's Boomer now, wuss!" Boomer said haughtily "It looks like you've been out of shape."
