Run

There I stand, in the middle of a crumbling world. A city created with a thought and the snap of a finger begins to fade away. A few hundred feet away, the darkness. It floods the street and corrupts the buildings.

"We need to go!" Icarus yells in the background. His voice then fades away. I watch the streets as the darkness begins to corrupt the buildings. I am suddenly taken by the hand ad led away. However, I don't resist.

As we run, I look at the empty streets. Behind me, a path of darkness and destruction. Buildings begin to collapse, one by one. Each collapse brings on a shake to the ground. Within the next minute I am on the ground. It is on the ground when I suddenly am snapped back into reality.

With all of my energy, I stand up and begin to run, catching up to Icarus. Sweat begins to run down my face, my heart beats faster. Blood drips from my knees, hands and forehead. I am weakened, yet the adrenaline has kicked in and I am fine.

In the distance, I see explosions. A brief moment later, the darkness returns. It has surrounded us on all four sides. I look quickly in all directions, searching, hoping for a way out of this situation. Then, I see it.

A building. Broken, damaged, an OPENING. I Quickly make my way to the building. The darkness swings, trying to stop me. However, I dodge it and slide underneath it. I then run up and make it inside the building.

The inside of the building was severely damaged. Glass floods the floor. However, that is not important. I look for a back entrance. I take my time yet search quickly as any moment, the building could collapse. Finally, I see it down the hallway. I sprint my way to the exit. The darkness follows from behind me. My escape is quickly interrupted when the side of the building gets corrupted and falls to the ground.

A few seconds later, the now collapsed chunk of wall ignites into flames. What now? I think to myself. Everything around me slows down. I focus only on the path ahead of me. There's only one way to make it to the exit, to jump across.

I breathe in and out and then run at full speed towards the ignited wall. When I make it a foot away from the flames, I thrust my upward and forwards. I feel the flames inches from my skin, as if the flames had avoided touching me. A few seconds later, I hit the ground.

When I land, I quickly run down the hallway. The exit is almost in my reach. A few seconds later, I make it. I push open the exit and run for as long as I can. I look behind me every now and then, but I focus on my goal.

Once It is safe, and I am out of town, I enter cover.

I've got to find out who's behind all this. Find out who controls the darkness. I say to myself.
