The very first thing I did the next day was turn on the news.
"Last night, here on Thomas Way, several police officers responded to a call about another animatronic attack. 6 year old Susan Mays was killed by a large robot. Officer Taylor was confronting two young men around the area when the animatronic brutally attacked him. Taylor is still alive, and is recovering-" the news broadcast then cut to the hospital where the officer was being interviewed.
"Yeah, the thing just stabbed me, like all this mechanical stuff just came out and boom, I was bleeding! I was asking these two kids who they were, and they pointed to the robot behind me. That's when it happened. They both pulled me away from the robot before it could kill me. One of them helped stop the bleeding and the other one lit pipe bombs and destroyed the damn thing. If it weren't for those two kids, I probably would've died. I hope I get the chance to thank them one day," I instantly knew he was talking about Chris and I. But hearing myself mentioned on the news was no longer shocking. It cut back to the reporter in the studio.
"These two alleged children, still unidentified, were wearing masks and hoods while helping the officer and using pipe bombs against the animatronic. It is suspected that these two also killed the Freddy Fazbear variant just last night - since both incidents involved the use of pipe bombs. Investigators are now looking into who built these animatronics and why this chaos is happening," My mom walked in and sighed. She ranted about how all of this news was putting stress on her because some people were asking weird questions on her Facebook page about our family.
At school, Chris and I played a round of 1 v 1 soccer while talking about the previous night. We were both surprised we had come as far as we had without getting caught. However, that was about to change in the worst way possible. In between 2nd and 3rd period, I got a lot of strange looks in the halls. Some guy with weird circular hippie glasses approached me with a picture of me on his phone. It was a wanted poster. There was a warrant out for my arrest.
"Ay free my boy, he didn't do nothing wrong!" some of them said jokingly. I looked it up on my phone and what I saw was horrifying;
"Isaac Afton - wanted for trespassing, theft, false imprisonment, minor in possession of a firearm, and manslaughter," under a picture of me taken from my Instagram page, there were photos of me taken from distant angles. One of them was me holding the gun up to Emma. One of them was me holding the guns and pipe bombs. And the last one showed me with the animatronics, and it was made to look like I released them. My heart genuinely sank and my stomach felt like an endless pit. My arms were shaking but the rest of my body was frozen. I didn't feel like being at school.
"Isaac, what the hell happened?" Mary asked in the halls.
"I don't know where this is coming from..." I said. I took the elevator down to the bottom floor and ran to my car. Chris followed me and jumped into the passenger seat.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I'm your friend. I'm sticking by your side during the hard shit, I'm here to back you up. If it was anyone else I would have probably dipped. But dude I'd take a bullet for you because you're my best friend. Been there since Day 1. I'm not fake, we're in this together," I nodded and gave him a fist bump. It was admirable and honestly unexpected.
"One problem though... where the fuck are we going?"
"Anywhere but here," I turned on the car and began taking back roads, lesser known ways out of the city. I reached Wendy's, which is all the way at the end of the city, but my stomach hurt too much from the pain - emotional pain. It was the pain of feeling like the world was against you. And while it was something I had felt before, I had never felt it this much. Chris bought a Frosty but nothing more, "man, why do I always get fast food? I need to cut this poison from my diet entirely, but man this shit is delicious," he said, tearing into the Frosty.
