It was every time we all four girlfriends came together for a day of what should be fun, but turns into complete disaster. As much as I wanted to worry about the friendship of Caren and Jade, I couldn't. It was the next morning and I had to focus on being in the presence of the Crawford-Benson family at this reunion after ten years.
I would've stayed home on this weekend; despite Kut mentioning it to me, but Cristal asking changed my attitude towards it. I love Cristal along with her sisters Evette and Toni. I made the decision to stay for one day since the reunion was a two-day event and return home with Gunner and Misty.
It was morning time, and me, Gunner, and Misty were on our way out the door to get to the airport for our flight. I was locking the door, as a question out of Misty's mouth. "Whose truck is that?"
"What truck?" The keys jingled in my hand as I turned around to notice the Ford F-150 parked ahead. The passenger window raised down and I rolled my eyes at the person.
"Oh. It's Joel." Misty said, frowning.
"Who's ready for a family reunion!?" Joel shouted out the window. "C'mon family!"
Gunner and Misty stood in place by me. "Who invited him?"
"Who knows." I answered Gunner's question as I moved in front of the kids and crouching to their levels. "We're gonna be nice to Dad. Joel's getting better, working. He's trying. He's always on the road and he's here. We're gonna be thankful. Got it?"
Misty was the only one to nod after my pep talk, while Gunner refused.
"Come on, Carrot." he looked at me, "If I can give him a liver after everything, you can give him a conversation. Just a little one."
"One-worded ones." he debated.
"One-worded ones. Got it." I suppressed a smile to ease the tension, kissing both of their foreheads as I raised fully to my height.
We made our way over and got in with our overnight bags of Joel's new truck, while he sat in the driver seat, grinning like an idiot.
It made me frown. "Why are you so excited?"
"Cause... my beautiful and handsome kids." Joel shot glances at each of us, "I missed you guys. I was on the road for awhile. Did y'all miss me?"
