“Thank you,” I say. “I don't know what I would have done without you.”
“Next time you are babysitting...” Clara pauses, staring down the street, “...give me a call.”
“What do you see?” I ask.
“Is that your Mom's car? The one that can't stay in the lane?”
“Uh. Yeah.” I say. “You probably should get out of her spot.”
“Right,” Clara says. “And don't worry, I will be back in twenty minutes, tops!”
She gets into her car.“Thanks, again!” I call as she drives away.
“Hey!” I call to my step sister emerging from Mom's car.
“Missed you!” Karla says, smiling.
“Everything go okay?” Mom asks.
“Yep. I even remembered to change your bedding,” I smile proudly.
“Good. Shall we head inside?” Mom asks.
“Lead the way,” Karla says.
We walk inside.
“How is Lilia? I have heard so much about her,” Karla says.“She's such a lovely child,” Mom answers. “Where is Lilia anyway? Lilia?!”
“Coming Mom!” Lilia calls.
Was it my imagination or was that the back door?“So, are you ready for finals?” Karla asks me.
We hear six running feet racing through the house.“Daisy come back! You're not dressed yet!” Lilia calls.
A muddy dog with a princess dress pulled over her head, and an equally muddy girl in a mud caked dress come running into the room.“Lilia!” Mom scolds.
“No, I'm not ready for finals,” I say.
