Chapter 1:
It'd been a long day of school and I was just wanting to get off the bus and relax. It came to my stop and started walking the couple houses down to get to my own. It's the middle of August and it is so hot outside. Alabama weather is so bipolar I swear...
"Hey dad I'm home!" I shout into whichever direction I thought my dad to be and closed the front door. I walked into the kitchen and set my backpack and purse down and started to empty out the contents of my lunch box.
"Ayeeee. How was school, Elizabeth?" my dad said in a silly way. He was so sarcastic and I loved him for his joking personality. He was sitting in the office chair looking at random articles about stocks and such.
"Nothing much. Same old high school. Hey is there any mail for me? People have been getting the annual People to People trip invitations and I'm just curious to see where I got invited to this year." I ramble on while walking back into the kitchen down the hallway.
My dad nodded not looking away from the computer, "Yeah, there is one in the pile on the counter."
"Sweet!"
I search through and scan the different letters tucking back a section of my thick, brown hair behind my ear. Biting my lip I start to tear open a letter with my name addressed from "People to People." I have had a few friends go on trips in the past. I absolutely love traveling. I mean I'm 15 years old I have to eventually do some exploring and go on adventures or it'll be too late like my parents.
I start to skip and read the letter as I go back to my dad in the office, "Heyyyyy! I got invited to England, Italy, and France! You know that would be totally awesome to go right?" I started smirking and raising my eyebrows revealing my gray, blue eyes in a begging manner. "Ya know just an idea. If you are bored and wanna send me somewhere. No biggie." I shrugged.
"Ha no. You're funny.." he says getting up from the swivel chair and out of the room.
"Wait, I'm not done! Where are you going!"
"It's 4 o'clock." he says like I should know.
"So?" I reply slurring.
"Judge Judy is on, duh." he exaggerates plopping down on the living room recliner and flicking to the channel his show was on. Weirdo.
"Ugh. You are ridiculous." I complain trudging upstairs while dragging my two ton backpack upstairs. I throw my stuff down on the floor and pull my hair back out of my face. I open my closest door and reveal a tall, skinny mirror hanging on the back. Best idea ever to put it there. I examine myself and think 'Wow, did I really look like this today..'. I was wearing a black tank top underneath a teal cardigan that somewhat complimented my tiny frame but large bust. Looking down I see my skinnies riding up so I fix my jeans and flick off my black loafers. I was a fairly simple girl sometimes. Mostly because there wasn't enough time in the morning. I refused to wake up any earlier than 6 am. That was my limit.
I go over and lay on my bed and get myself situated. My iPod was practically my life so to no surprise I was already scrolling through my Instagram feed. I happened to notice a few people from school posted pictures of their invitation letter for a People to People trip next summer. Why not? I'm curious to see who would've gone with me or not. So, leaning over I grab the paper and Instagram a picture of it. England, Italy, and France. Not too shabby huh?
"So get out, get out, get out of my head and fall into my arms instead.." my phone rang from beside me and I twisted over in a weird position and accepted the call.
"Hay girl hay!" I say as I greet my best friend, Anna, on the other line.
"Elizabeth! Guess what I also got invited to England, France, and Italy!" she says proudly.
"Wouldn't that be amazing if we could both go together and have the time of our lives!" I gushed. For the next half hour I fantasized on the phone with my beat friend about what we would do on a trip out of the country together. Fun stuff man..
