The cold, dull light of lightnings flashing outside the compound lit up the halls. Every step she took felt forbidden and send shivers down her spine, making her feel like she interrupted the yet magical natural storm that swept over the countryside.

She remembered how much she had missed snuggling into her soft blanket, leaning against the windowsill of a little corner in the compound and listening to the raindrops patter on the thick glass as she settled down. Nobody ever bothered to sit there and she didn't bother to offer so, it appeared as if this place belonged to her and her alone.

"Sneaking around at night, I see."

The sudden sound of the majestic voice caused her the chills as she wheeled around to face the raven-haired god, leaning on the windowsill with a couple of meters as a distance between them.

"Apologies, didn't mean to frighten you."

"Eh, I'll live, right?"

A soft chuckle escaped Loki's lips. "May I sit with you?"

Her hesitation caused silence to rule for a few seconds, yet then she gave him a nod and gesticulated next to her. A faint breeze of his scent reached her nostrils. Made her stomach tingle slightly, yet she pushed it away.

"May I... ask you a question, [Name]?"

The answer he received was a gentle nod when a lightning flooded the two with brightness once again.

"Is there a reason you're always up during thunderstorms and rain at night? Most midgardians would consider sleep a better option, as far as they're able to during those conditions."

For a moment, she wasn't quite able to process what had slipped off his lips as she was busy focusing on the dull, dark terrain outside.

"I simply believe in finding comfort in it", she finally replied. "No one else, only me, yet I don't feel the need to focus on myself. Wouldn't do any good, probably."

She inhaled deeply, wrapping her blanket around her shoulders.

"What about you? Seems like you've been stalking me whenever I was up at night, yet that means you, young man, were up as well."

"For the record, I wasn't stalking. Just having a light sleep, as usual."

"Sure", she scoffed. "You're dodging my question, Loki."

Silence.

"Sorry, don't feel pushed to reply to my question. I was simply interested, y'know", she remarked, receiving a slight chuckle from the person by her side.

"I am aware, just... needed a moment." He took a deep breath before he started, not darting his gaze away from the raindrops falling from the sky.

"I... used to find comfort in rainy nights, too. Could listen to it for hours. I would let it stain my skin, because the image of it washing all my emotions off me felt like relief."

For a couple of seconds, she needed to process his words. Loki's words. The words of who would be more likely to throw a cocky joke at anyone than to be comforted by nature.

"You used to?" she questioned.

"Still do, sometimes", he answered. "Sometimes."

She shifted a little closer, carefully letting her head rest on his shoulder, not intending to make him uncomfortable.

He let it happen.

"Y'know, Loki. Emotions aren't created to be 'washed off'. Sometimes setting them free is what they desire, freedom it is. They're more than valid, and so are you."

Silence followed.

She gazed down onto her hand, nervously examining it and wondering if she had taken it too far.

Only as a gentle touch in her palm snapped her out of her thoughts, she realised Loki had intertwined his long, slender fingers with hers. When she dared to gaze at him again, her eyes met his clear crystals with an undefinable colour in such a dull lighting.

Yet said lighting was enough for her to recognise how a tear had left a trace where it must've been crawling down Loki's cheek not long ago.

"You said I'm valid", he uttered barely audible.

The thumb of her hand that was tangled with Loki's gently stroked across his slightly rough skin in order to make him feel understood.

"I meant what I said, Loki", she remarked. "Nobody would volunteer for being invalidated, and yet it happens to some. I won't expect you to explain your whole life story to me, but... I don't want you to invalidate yourself anymore. Because, and let's be frank here, we both know you've been doing so for way too long."

Loki opened his mouth with a gasp, yet [Name] gently stopped him by placing a finger on his lips.

"Whether you're about to complain or not, I suggest we'll just let the rain comfort us for now, hm?"

Loki agreed with a the slightest nodding movement possible, yet she perceived it and leaned back onto his torso.

This night, both didn't only find comfort in the rain once again.

They found comfort with themselves, also.
