That night, Scott McCall was doing chin-ups in the doorway of his bathroom before he went to brush his teeth for the night. His head shot up when he heard a creaking noise. He turned around, grabbing a jacket and a baseball bat before going outside, quietly walking around his porch.

"Nova?" Scott asked, seeing the girl looking up at something above her. He had been best friends with Nova and her brother Stiles for as long as he could remember. Her head snapped towards him and gave him a soft smile. He lowered the baseball bat only to lift  it back up and scream when Stiles popped up in front of him, hanging upside down. "Stiles, what the hell are guys doing here?"

"You weren't answering your phone!" Stiles defended them. "Why do you have a bat?"

"I thought you were a predator."

"A pre -- Look, I know it's late but you gotta hear this. We saw our dad leave 20 minutes ago," Stiles told Scott, pointing towards Nova. "Dispatch called. They're bringing in every officer from the Beacon department and even State Police."

"For what?" Scott asked.

"Two joggers found a body in the woods," Nova spoke up as Stiles tired to safely land from where he was hanging by his feet.

"A dead body?"

"No, a body of water. Yes, dumbass, a dead body," Stiles sarcastically said after getting up from his awkward land.

"You mean like murdered?"

"Nobody knows yet," Nova shrugged. "Just that it was a girl, probably in her 20's."

"Hold on, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?"

"That's the best part," Stiles smiled. "They only found half. We're going."

They pulled up in Stiles' blue Jeep and parked right outside the entrance to the woods.

"We're seriously doing this?" Scott asked, wearily. Nova patted his shoulder as she walked up next to him.

"You're the one always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town," Stiles said, shining a flashlight in front of them.

"I don't think that meant he wanted to go dead body hunting with us," Nova rolled her eyes.

"I was just trying to get a good nights sleep before practice tomorrow," Scott said, bringing up lacrosse practice.

"Right, cause sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort," Nova teased. Scott gave her a glare which caused her to hold her hands up in surrender. "

"No, cause I'm playing this year. In fact, I'm making First Line."

"Scott, I've been watching you sit on the bench each game since the start of Freshman year, what makes you think this year is gonna be different?"

"At least he has hopes," Stiles told her. "Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one."

"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" Scott asked the twins.

"Huh! Didn't even think about that," Stiles replied honestly.

"And, uh, what if whoever killed the body is still out here?"

"Also something we didn't think about," Nova said.

"It's comforting... to know you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail," Scott said, breathing heavily as they climbed up a hill.

"I know."

"Maybe the severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight, huh?" Scott leaned against a tree and pulled out his inhaler.

"You good, Scotty?" Nova asked. He gave her a look that said 'Does it look like I'm okay?'. She just nodded with a tight lipped smile and pat his head before moving ahead.

The group of three fell to the ground when they reached the top of the hill, spotting a group of officers up ahead.

"Wait, come on!" Stiles said, jumping up and running off.

"Stiles!" Scott said before him and Nova jumped up and ran after him. "Wait up!" They kept running, trying desperately to avoid the officers flashlights but they only seemed to get closer.

"Shit!" Nova muttered under her breath, knowing just how much trouble her and Stiles would be in with their dad when he caught them.

Nova and Stiles had ran ahead of Scott but slowed to a stop when they heard him telling them to wait up. Stiles turned his head to the side and fell down when he spotted a police dog that was barking at them, a flashlight was shining brightly in their eyes. Nova raised her hands while Stiles wiggled around on the ground, still staring at the dog. Nova almost rolled her eyes at him before the officer spoke up.

"Hold it right there!"

"Hang on, hang on," The voice of the person the twins definitely did not wanna see, cut the officer off.  That voice was Noah Stilinski, the Sheriff and their father. "These little delinquents belong to me."

"Hi, Dad," Nova said, blinking through the rain in her eyes.

"So, do you guys, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?"

"No. Not the boring ones," Stiles told him.

"Now, where's your usual partner in crime?"

"Who, Scott?" Nova asked. "Scott's home. Wanted to get a good nights sleep or something like that. It's just us. In the woods."

"Scott, you out there?" Noah shouted, shining his flashlight around the perimeter. "Scott? Well, I'm gonna walk you guys back to Stiles' car. And then we're all gonna have a conversation about something called invasion of privacy."
