It had been 3 hours since the girls had been grounded. Their mom locked them in their room. They listened to the wind howl outside and laid in bed, silent. Then Rose sighed.

"We shouldn't live like this, Violet. If this is how life will be I'd rather not live." There was a long pause. The room filled with a feeling of discomfort. Violet sat up from the bottom bunk. She started to put on her shoes.

"What do you think you're doing?" Rose hissed as she got down from the top bunk. Violet pointed at the open window. Rose got a small smile as she knew what Violet was thinking.

"Are you ready?" Violet asked as she slipped out into the backyard. Rose quickly got her shoes on and slipped out the window after her sister. The cold air was refreshing after being in the hot stuffy room for 3 hours, but they got cold after a while.

"Where are we going to go now?" Asked Violet. "We finally got out." Her sister shrugged and they kept walking. They walked and walked for what seemed like forever. There was no turning back now. They needed time from themselves and were planning on leaving forever.

They finally came to something. It looked like a secret path into a sea of trees. First, the trees seemed small as if they were just planted. But as they walked farther onto the path, the trees became a lot wider and taller.

"Where are we? I don't recognize this place." Rose cried as her paranoid personality overcame her bravery. But neither of them knew. As the wind became stronger they started to wish they had worn coats.

"We have to keep going! Mother can't hurt us here." Violet lied trying to calm her sister down. They both became upset as they were remembering how much their mother abused them.

They decided to walk deep into the darkened woods to escape their terrible life at home. There was no way to tell how far they had gone, or how long it had been since they left. The dead leaves crunched under their feet with every step they took.

As they were walking a building came into sight. It was wooden and looked like it had been on fire at one point. The curious girls slowly walked up to the house. It was cold to the touch but looked like it could still stand even if someone were to live in it.

"Violet, should we go in?" Rose trembled. Violet could tell that nobody lived there for a long time. It was completely out of sight from everything, and no one in their right mind would want to live there because of the scary look.

"I don't know. It seems-" Violet began. Then she remembered there was nowhere else to go. They had to live in the old cabin to be able to survive. Their friends couldn't take twins in and there was no other family that loved them. Rose pushed open the burned door and it creaked. There was a long echo before it became silent again.

It was quite scary for two teens to be out on their own this early in the morning. They both took a deep breath and peeked inside. When they finally stepped into the house, the old furniture was broken and the windows were cracked. Some parts of the walls were missing but that didn't matter. It wasn't like someone would come to the place anyways.

"It seems.. abandoned?" Rose whispered to Violet as she closed the door behind her. Violet tried to turn on the light but the electricity was out. They looked around the first room. It looked like a living room. There was a couch and two rocking chairs. A fireplace was behind everything but was full of dust.

Violet slowly approached the fireplace. She hit a giant red button and a flame burst from the bottom of the opening. It had scared both of them half to death because it happened fast.

Rose and Violet then both agreed to finish searching the cabin for anything super unusual. As they looked around, all they had found was more broken furniture and super dusty walls and windows.

It was getting super late by the time they were done exploring their new living space. It was a fairly big size considering it was in the middle of nowhere. They decided that it was time for bed.

They went into the single bedroom and realized that there was only one small mattress. It looked super uncomfortable, and there was only room for one.

After realizing this, both the twins agreed to switch nights sleeping on the floor. Since tonight was the first night in the cabin, Violet ended up on the floor. This was only because Rose was too paranoid about it.

Violet wasn't yet ready to go to bed, so she just sat on the floor and talked with her sister about how terrifying the night had been. They both argued back and forth about the scariest part of the day.

When they were ready for bed, the girls laid down. Rose was already fast asleep when Violet found what looked like a door under the bed. "ROSE WAKE UP" Violet called. She woke up startled. They both sat on the floor staring at the trap door fearfully wondering what could lie behind it.
