High school is a hard thing to do. The filthy perverts giving you creepy looks, the dumb blondes sucking up to their professors, the jocks showing off for the cheerleaders, the druggies behind the school shooting up crack at 7am, it's exhausting.
As I slowly walked out of my loud high school I felt the cold refreshing rain drops fall onto my face. "Shit-" I quickly ran as fast as I could. Our town was known for heavy rainfall and I didn't bring an umbrella. "Shit-shit-shit" My shoes slapped against the wet sidewalk as I rushed past other students- equally as pissed off for forgetting umbrellas. I stepped into a giant puddle and groaned as my socks soaked up all the water from my shoes. Thunder softly mumbled in the background and I shook my head as I quickly rushed into the old bookstore ran by our English teacher. "Mr. chance?? Are you in here?" I quickly walk into the small dim lit bookstore and walked to the back setting my bag down. "It's raining so hard out there right now... I'd hate to be stuck out there right now." I laughed softly as I heard his quiet snoring in his office lit by the window. I took off my shoes and set them onto a warm heater along with my socks. I bend down and grab some slippers Mr. Chance lets me keep when I get caught in rain. I suddenly hear the small ring from the bell. I quickly rush over to the counter fixing my hair that was still wet from the rain. Heavy footsteps echoed through the walls as the dark figure came closer. I attempted a warm smile as a thick leather book dropped onto the worn out counter. I slightly flinched at the loud drop and quickly composed myself. "I'm here to return this book." A warm voice filled the air as I looked up at the dark brunette woman wearing a long purple cloak. I paused marbled at the fact that she wasn't wet at all despite the heavy rainstorm coming from outside. I nodded calmly as I looked over it. "Oh I'm sorry ma'am, this isn't one of ours." She calmly chuckled as she tapped my hand. "Be careful on what you do with this, dear." Suddenly a loud flashing boom of thunder and lighting filled the room. When I look back up the strange woman disappeared. I looked down at the book confused but set it aside and cleaned up waiting for my shift to end.
Once my shift finished I packed up my things and went into Mr. Chances room. "Hey, is it ok if I take a book home with me?" He laughed as he looked up from the stack of papers he was grading. "Of course you can. Just make sure-" I interrupted him jokingly. "Not to ruin it or I'll have to buy it." We both laugh as he nods and looks at his watch. "It's late, are you sure you don't want a ride home?" I sit on the small chair near his desk and pull my shoes on. "Haha no I'll be fine. The rains stopped and the bus doesn't take too long." He sighed knowing he can't say anything to stop me. "Ok, just be safe please. I don't know who'd sort our shelves if you went missing." I roll my eyes as I wave and go out to the front of the shop. I quickly grab the book and shove it into my bag before heading out to the bus stop. I planned to read it on the bus but I fell asleep and only woke up minutes before I got to my stop.
