Sunako Sumire x Kaminari Denki
Commission for idkwhyiamhereyeet
"Keep up the good work." The man before her spoke and tossed something down at her feet. "I'll see you again on the fifteenth for the next information exchange."
She nodded slowly and bent downwards. The man before her turned and started to disappear into the mist he created. He paused before he was totally gone though, turning back to look at the girl whose hair was a similar shade as his warp mist.
"There should be plenty in there for not only your dear father's medicine... but also some for yourself. Do treat yourself for such a wonderful service you are preforming." Kurogiri spoke and then in the next second was gone.
She hadn't been paying much attention to him anyway. No, what she cared about was the envelope tossed out towards her feet. The same size and color as always. Inside was always the same amount of money too. Enough to pay to help her father, but also for herself.
She felt dirty. She used this money to treat her father. She used this money to pay for clothing or food. She lied to her parents about taking on a few part-time jobs that paid really well. Enough to afford that pricy medicine that her father needed. Her hero father.
Sumire wondered what he'd think or feel when he found out that the only reason he was making a recovery was because his daughter had done something despicable. So desperate for money... she accepted the hand that reached towards her from the shadows.
The job had been easy: spy on Yuuei Academy, specifically the hero courses and the hero teachers, and report back on anything that was happening. She was paid for her time and information. At first, she was fine with it. She was helping her dad. She wasn't letting him get worse!
But then... she got to know her UA peers. She might not be in the hero course herself... but her cousin was. Fumikage was always too kind to her. He went out of his way to not only help her train so she could prove why she deserved to get into the hero course but also introduced her to his friends and classmates.
Since then... she had been with them all constantly. She told herself at first that it was because she needed the information. To know their weaknesses and schedules. How to exploit them so the League could get the upper hand.
But... somewhere between the invitations to hang out, sharing laughs at lunch, and happily chatting after school... her gut started to devour her. The feelings inside of her only grew worse with each time her eyes landed on one of them. She wanted to disappear. She wished she could... but her father needed her.
She was the only one who'd be able to take care of him. Her mother had been gone since before the accident on some long mission that required her to cut off all contact to get close to whatever foreign criminal organization she was trying to take down from the inside.
This feeling of pulling: one side being her morals, the other her duty. It led to many sleepless nights, random spurts of tears, and a shameful refusal of friendship.
She hated herself. That she was sure of.
Yet she couldn't stop. She kept going. It was as if she was addicted to this kind of work and the allure of the danger that came with it. Maybe she was also enticed by the idea of someone stopping her and saving all her friends. She didn't know... nor did she want to try and figure anything out.
So, Sumire walked along the quiet streets, back to her home. Her green eyes looked towards the ground, feeling as if she could see her pools of green in her own vision. She bit her lip and suddenly let out a tiny cry.
She fell onto the pavement and grumbled.
"Oh! Sorry!" A voice reached her and she froze.
Sumire lifted her head and saw the smiling face of Kaminari Denki. He held out his hand towards her, looking to be ready to pull her up. She hesitantly reached out to him and he reached even further out to help pull her up.
"What are you doing this far away from UA, Kaminari-kun?" Sumire asked and Kaminari chuckled.
He motioned to the plastic bag in his other hand. Sumire couldn't see what was inside, but it certainly looked full.
"I had some extra cash on me! So I came down to this shop cause they sell the best selection of Kitto Katsu flavors!" He told her and then blinked. "Oh! You should take one Sunako! This one would be perfect for you!"
Kaminari fished the candy bar out of his bag and put it into her hands. She gave her one last smile before he took off down the street. He waved brightly toward her one last time and then turned a corner.
Sumire looked down at what he had given her and she felt sick. It was a dark chocolate bar of the infamous Kit Kat. She could understand why he'd give it to her, seeing as her quirk did produce a set of black claws. Kaminari must have thought she'd like a candy that was as dark as her quirk.
The candy bar was crushed in her hand and she shook her head back and forth violently. Why was she doing this? She couldn't do this to Kaminari! To all her friends! To everyone, she had come to hold dear!
But... she was in too deep. No amount of guilt or refusal could save her now. She had cast her soul as black as her claws and allowed her fangs to drains her very sense of life from her. Sumire currently was a husk, acting only on payment and trying to distract herself from the disgust she felt towards herself.
She had drowned in the shadows long ago and she doubted that no amount of bright, kind, and hopeful smiles would be able to cleanse her. She had picked her path and closed every other door as a result. Especially the one where she could truly walk along Kaminari and company with a genuine smile of her own. She could only... hope he'd figure her out.
To put her out of her misery as she was unable to do so herself.
