As I drifted off to sleep that night, my mom was the only person on my mind. I couldn't stop thinking about life before she was sick and then everything that happened after that.

My mind kept pulling me back.

I had turned twenty a few months ago and Justin and I recently moved in together.

When he was at work I would always come and hang out here at my mom's. The yard was where I felt most inspired.

I was almost finished with my degree at the Fashion Institute and I would sit in that same spot for hours reading the latest fashion news or drawing designs of my own. I felt at peace in that spot. It was my home.

"It's starting to get dark out, sweetheart." Mom said as she approached me on the bench. "What time is Justin off today?"

"I didn't even realize the sun started to set." I said, looking around the backyard. "I'm sure he's on his way home now.." I trailed off. "I should probably head home. You know he doesn't like it when I'm not home to greet him."

"Baby, you know I love you right?"

I nodded. "Yes, I know, mom."

She crossed her arms. "Well, I don't like what I'm hearing. Justin is starting to sound controlling. Why should it matter if you're at your mom's when he gets home from work? I just want what's best for you, my beautiful girl. And quite frankly, I don't think Justin is it."

"Mom, you know it's not like that." I frowned. "I love Justin and he loves me too."

"You know I loved your dad and I thought he loved me too. He still left, baby. Sometimes even though we love someone deeply, they're just not the right person for us. I want you to be happy, Selena."

I smiled. "You have nothing to worry about, I promise. I'll see you tomorrow, mom!"

"Sorry to interrupt.." Mom frowned as she approached Pollo, Justin, and I. "Justin, could you excuse us for a moment?"

He nodded. "Of course, Mrs. Gomez."

"Thank you for saving me from the most boring conversation ever." Apollo groaned.
