Yesterday, Caleb dropped me off, and I went straight to bed. I was exhausted.
The next morning I was up early and headed to the office. I had little time to get this project running. And there was so much to do.
I had lunch with Arabella, and we spoke about what I needed to decorate Caleb's mansion. Thankfully, we only stayed on that topic.
By the time I got home, it was already dark outside. I unlocked my door and stepping in I saw a huge bouquet on the table. It was filled with white roses. How did they get here?
Hmm, somebody who works in the lobby probably left it here.
I didn't pay much attention to the roses and I went to bed.
----------------------------------
Three weeks flow by so quickly. The rooms in Caleb's mansion were almost finished. Only the finishing touches were missing.
This was by far the quickest job I ever finished. I was just getting ready to go to the mansion to get everything ready, so Caleb can see it later.
I still felt this chill stepping into the mansion, but I tried not to show it.
The living room was transformed. From old, to modern and classic. Setting the vase on the table, I turned around to wait for Caleb. He should be arriving any moment.
"Katherine, this looks amazing" said Caleb stepping into the room. I smiled at him.
"Really? You do know, you can tell me if something is not to your liking. I can have it replaced quickly." I explained.
"No, I really like it. I mean it. It looks modern but cozy. It's exactly what the boss wanted."
Wait, his boss??
"Your boss? Didn't you say that this mansion is now yours?" I'm confused. He lied? Or I didn't understand it well.
"Well, the boss said I should wait to tell you, but you're here now, and he does get impatient. You know he's been waiting for this for the last four months." He rambled on.
"Get to the point!" I said, trying to keep my calm.
"I never bought it. It still belongs to the previous owner."
I palled. NO, he is alive??
I took a step back, only to fall over the couch. I got up quickly, and I wanted to make a run for the door when 10 bodyguards shoved up. I panicked. My head started spinning and I lost my balance. I feel and somebody grabbed me.
The panic overtook me and I fainted.
When I woke up, I was in one of the newly redecorated guest bedroom.
I was still in my clothes, but my heels were waiting by the door.
I got up to find my phone, so I could check the time, but I couldn't find it. It was dark outside. Wow, I must have passed out for en entire day. I need to get out of here.
While I was putting on my shoes, I was hit with what happened earlier. Xavier is still alive? No, that could be possible. When I left him, he wasn't breathing. He was dead.
This shit can't be happening.
I opened the door, which was surprisingly unlocked.
I located the stairs and I practically ran down them. There were guards by the front door, so I made a turn. I saw a glass balcony door in the living room.
Stepping inside the living room, I found that the fireplace was lit and it illuminated the room in a lovely glow.
I made a run at the door and when I reached it, I realized it was locked. Shit. I need to find Caleb.
I turned around and that's when I saw him.
Xavier.
He was sitting in the armchair with a filled glass in his hand. Scotch or Whiskey probably.
I lost my breath. He pointed to couch by the glass door. I took a seat slowly.
"Hello, Love." I sucked in a breath. My eyes were wide and I didn't know what to say.
"You look a little pale Kat, are you feeling aright? Are you surprised I am alive and well in front of you?" He taunted. He smiled.
"Oh come on, talk to me for God's sake. I haven't heard your lovely voice since you killed me. Ups, sorry I mean shot me."
"How...?" I even couldn't finish the sentence. My hands were shaking. My whole body was cold. I couldn't move.
"How? After you shot me and left me for dead. My men found me and my private doctor saved me. It took a while for me to recover but I keept an eye on you. I couldn't just leave my girl to fend for herself alone. So I sent in Caleb after you started working again, so I would know what happened around you. And you believed Caleb was a good guy." He laughed.
"Sometimes you are naive. So I have to protect you. When you came back to the mansion, I could see the fear in your eyes. And now the fear is gone. You can walk into here just as you did before. Without fear."
"Xavier, I don't want this. Can't you see it? I only suffer when I am with you. I even don't regret shooting you. I had hoped you died. But here you are. I knew it was too good to be true."
He narrowed his eyes to me and threw his drink back in one go.
He got up and sat down next to me. He cupped my cheek and I tried not to pull my head away. I had to be careful. I had to play this smart.
"Love, you will get used to this. The fear will disappear with time, and you will learn to love this. Us. I should punish you for shooting me, but you were hurt and confused. I will make this right again. But I am warning you. Don't try me, because I can still make you obey. One way or another." He grabbed my hand and kissed my knuckles.
"Okay." I whispered. He smiled at me and he got up. He held his hand out to me and pulled me up.
"Come, let's have dinner. You must be starving. I missed you."
He kissed my forehead and pulled me to the dining room.
He made me sit next to him, so he could be close to me. So he said.
The maids served dinner, as I remained quiet. I hope he lets me go home.
It was some sort of soup. I started eating slowly.
"I love how you redecorated this place. I wanted the mansion to have your touch." He grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
I smiled at him and gave him a reassuring squeezed back.
"Thank you. The mansion is beautiful. Working here was amazing."
I need to keep him happy, so long till I can get out.I need to move somewhere he won't ever find me.
We didn't speak after that. Dinner was finally finished so I asked.
"Xavier?"
"Yes darling?"
"Can I go home? I am really tired and I have work tomorrow. We can see each other tomorrow again." I offered.
"No, you will be moving here. Tomorrow is Friday, so I am going to let you go to work and after work we will move all of your things here."
"But..."
"I was clear Kat. You will be staying here with me and where I or my men can keep an eye on you. Now let's go to bed."
He pulled me up to the master bedroom. It still remained the same as I remembered it.
I was going to bed with my enemy again. The nightmare just restarted.
