What If... Loki and Sylvie could go back in time and correct their mistakes?

Loki and Sylvie have just been given time to think, they have one day to decide if they will take the opportunity to go back in time, to their own timeline from which they came... knowing, of course, that they can make a major change and reverse their future. What they'd lose, though, is their memories from the current time, so it would be as if they'd never met, and probably would never happen again.

They had just both silently arrived home, their current and probably temporary home. Both had their heads full of thoughts of what to do next. How to actually decide, and how did the other probably want to decide? At home, they were unusually avoiding each other. Neither wanted to be the first to speak, or rather they didn't know what to say. Each was guessing what the other must think, how he or she felt about the whole thing. And in fact they were afraid to ask aloud. Both of them thought that the other would definitely want to fix something in his life, which would mean not seeing each other again. Which in the final analysis only led to the fact that instead of talking about their decision, each imagined what it would be like without the other, even though they wouldn't even remember it in the final analysis.

Sylvie went to the kitchen to get water, but it was just an excuse to see Loki. She wonder what he's doing... she was more than curious. Loki suddenly looked at Sylvie and his heart prickled at the thought of never knowing her. Sylvie looked at him just then and saw the look on his face, "Are you okay?"

Loki looked so strange. "Yeah," he muttered, preferring to leave the room. Sylvie was even more confused after that reaction. Loki was in the bedroom for a few seconds when he sort of got mad at himself for his behavior and came back. "Sorry." He sighed.

"It's okay..."

"No, it's not," he walked over and took her hands in his. "I can't get it out of my head."

"Neither can I. It's just... it's a big decision..."

"There would be so many things I'd want to do differently."

"So would I. Especially when I could maybe live the life I've lost, but at the same time..."

"...I'd probably never have met you."

"Yeah, we'd probably never meet... and we would have forgotten everything... between us..." so she looked at him. "Besides... how would we learn from our mistakes if we don't remember them? We'd go back and what if we made them again? And nothing will change?" She voiced her concerns.

"You're right. We could make those mistakes again... or maybe even worse. There's no guarantee it would turn out any better."

"We don't... maybe what happened... what should have happened... don't you think?"

"So... we leave it as it is?"

"And you want to?"

"I know that to change it would mean forgetting you... I wouldn't know... but right now, the thought of it is killing me... I can't live without you anymore." He confessed to her. Sylvie smiled at that, as if it was exactly what she needed to hear. So she stroked his cheek. "And what would you like?" He asked so carefully, wanting to be sure.

"Before we met, this would have been a dream come true. It's just that now... I can't imagine forgetting the way you look at me and the way I feel when I'm with you..." Loki immediately pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. "I think I would've always felt like I missed someone so much..." So she pressed against him.

Loki kissed her hair. "I'd have an emptiness in my heart and I wouldn't know why."

"Maybe it's happened to us before..." She thought suddenly. "But we found each other again."

Loki looked at her and smiled. "We always find each other."

Sylvie couldn't resist kissing him. Loki prolonged the kiss and smiled wistfully at her.

"Only my love for you has made me a better person. That might not happen again." Sylvie smiled.

"I feel the same way," he stroked her cheek. "So it's decided? We leave it as it is?" He asked and Sylvie nodded in agreement and Loki added: "You're my life now. I don't want to go back anywhere."

Sylvie was touched, "Me neither, I'm happy here with you now..." She said seriously. Loki kissed her and then hugged her tightly.
