Prologue

The forest at night may be silent and quiet to human ears, but to the wolf it is alive and thriving. A lone howl pierces the night air, alerting the pack to a meeting, but not just any meeting. This meeting is what every Alpha dreads. A pack member has become rabid, a danger to all, especially humans whose flesh is the only thing the unholy creatures crave. What turns a loyal, strong member of the pack into a horrible monstrous beast, do you ask? It can happen in one of two ways, tampering with the moon's magic by rejecting your mate for selfish gain, or the worst crime any shape shifter and were- creature could ever  commit, killing another innocent shifter which is more often than not, a member of the pack or clan. In the instances that it was from another pack or clan, it is automatic death as no Alpha or Leader will take the insult lightly. Is it reversible, can the creature be redeemed? It is very rare yet possible, but there are however, two irreversible side effects. The wolf spirit, which is supposed to be a companion to the shifter, is forever gone and the shape the shifter takes is forever changed. No longer on all fours but on two legs, its senses are weaker and is more clumsy, but can still quickly out run humans. They can still transform at will, but the full moon forces them to shift, whether they like it or not, and there is one glaring fact to all wolves, big or small, that once you become rabid, you can never, ever become an Alpha or a Luna.
The great Alpha stands atop the ledge of a small mountain over seeing a clearing. His Luna by his side both remain in their wolf forms, their tired looking son on his wife's back waiting for all the pack members, his Beta, and Gamma quickly arrive on either side below the ledge, all with grave reluctance. Out of the corner of the Alpha's eye, he can see the pack members streaming in from the forest, all of them in their wolf forms. All has become silent, awaiting the Alpha to speak. With a deep breath, the Alpha and the Wolf spirit inside him speak in unison through the mind link

"All pack members big and small. Young and old, I call this meeting for the worst news I could ever bring to this strong willed pack"

He pauses and looks at his wife, her eyes glistening, but she knew she couldn't cry nor show any weakness, she was the Luna. Pack law above all else. She gave him the slight nod of approval facing the pack, her head held high. The Alpha faces the pack once more again speaks

"Our beautiful Luna's sister has become rabid, she has murdered her mate in cold blood"

Whines, whimpers and growls were all the responses uttered from each and every pack member ringing out from the clearing. The Alpha continues after all the pack has quieted down

"She has disappeared into the forest, but we have alerted all packs and clans, and the werewolf hunters have been alerted in every city and every state. There is nowhere she can hide, it is our hope that we do not  have to kill her, but catch her and let a wizard cast a spell where she can be back in control, but until she is found and captured successfully, any human that wanders away from the safety of the city into the forest, they are in grave danger. Remember, we still want humans to be unaware of our presence. Do not be seen or heard but if you spot her or stumble upon her scent, alert the Gamma and Beta who were both handpicked by the Luna to lead the search in finding her"

The Alpha feeling his wife's sadness threatening to overtake her through the mate bond. He moves his paw closer to hers as nonchalantly as possible, once his paw and hers touched, he could feel the sadness slightly dissipate, However, that loving gesture and silent comfort was enough to keep her standing strong by his side.

"If she is found in another pack's territory then we believe is for certain she will be killed but it is our hope that the beta and gamma get to her before they do, you know what the rabid's look like but be mindful of the rabid inflicted those that were bitten or scratched by a rabid, those are innocent humans however, they can never go back to human civilization, they belong to the pack but they are not fully pack members, we can't connect them as I am connected with you now so again be mindful for they are also enslaved to the moon but we are not if you happen to find a rabid inflicted alert the Luna or myself. Let us hope that she hasn't inflicted any poor human"
