Sorry guys, but this chapter may be a little graphic, bloodwise. If you are prone to puking at the thought of blood, guts, and knifes, then I suggest you skip this chapter.
I woke up to the sound of screaming.
I glanced up the tree and saw that it was still night. I grab my bow and cautiously climb out of the hole and look around for intruders.
I didn't see anybody, so I stepped out and inspected my surroundings.
"AHHHH!" There it is again. The screaming. I scurry through the trees and come to a small field. The screaming sounds closer now.
I quickly climb a tree and spot a fire in the distance/.Not a huge fire, but a small campfire.
I get down from the tree and carefully run to where the screaming is coming from.
I come to where the fire is and crouch behind a large bush.
A young girl, about ten or eleven is laying by the fire. The Careers surround her, laughing. A deep gash is in the girl's forehead, but the chest is still rising up and down.
She blinks her eyes open.
"Pl-please don't kill me." She whimpers. The Careers laugh even harder. I recognize the girl now. She is Lila, the girl from District 9.
Alexi from District 2 reaches in her pack for her knife case.
"Hmmm. Which one should I choose?" Alexi questions. "How about, this one?"
She snatches a three inch dagger. Lila starts to cry as Alexi stands above her.
"Where should I start? How about the arm?"
Alexi punches her knife into Lila's elbow and rips it upwards to her shoulder. She screams so loud, I think she just made all of Panem deaf.
"Not enough? Let's try the fingers!"
Alexi grabs Lila's pinky and saws her knife into it, cutting it off. Tears of blood of running down her face. Alexi moves on to the other fingers. I'm so horrified to watch, yet I can't take my eyes off. It's like a train wreck.
After Alexi finishes her fingers, she picks up one of the unconnected finger and drops it into Lila's mouth, choking her with her own blood. Alexi plunges a knife into Lila's eye. I'm pretty sure Lila has given up on living.
The Careers spot another fire somewhere, so they throw Lila in the fire and go hunting for more tributes.
I emerge out of the bush and almost puke at what I see. Lila is burning alive, fleshy and bloody. Her eyes-or eye, plead for help.
I know there is nothing I can do to save her, so I do the only thing I could think of.
I kill her. Only to put her out of misery and pain. My heart aches for Lila. She was so young, and these cruel people throw her into a fight to the death?!
Bryanna was right, the Capitol is vicious, and bloodthirsty. Lila could've had a long life.
I sprint back to my camp sobbing. My cries echo through the cold and dark forest.
I almost fall back into the hole, where my awake teammates are waiting for me.
"What the heck are you doing? You could've gotten us all killed!" Ava shouts.
I fill them in all the details.
Milly comes over and hugs me.
"You did her a favor." Milly says.
"I know."
I fall asleep, crying.
