Haunting Emotions

"He was shot and stabbed by some lunatic maniacs down a dead-end street....", Sam continued but Zack's mind trailed off to his own world of thoughts as he tried to understand how some maniacs got to kill the man who was strong enough to knock him down with just one single blow, even when he worked out at gym everyday. The news of Mathan's death had hit him like a tornado, knocking all the senses out of him. A small part of him was still wishing it was all some kind of practical joke his friends are trying to pull, in his welcome, but the bigger part of his brain knew, his friends, with all their craziness and shit, would never even think about joking about something as serious as this. Damn!

Mathan was dead..... He had died a month after he'd left.... The man who had the power to make him feel jealous in the depth of his hearts, was dead..... He had died, leaving Gen all alone against this world.... Mathan couldnot be dead....!! Zack felt like his brain was going to explode with all these thoughts rushing through his head. He felt like he'd dozed off and all his nightmares have come alive. Though at certain points in his life, he had wished nothing more than this; wished that he'd never even existed, but now it was all horrifying the shit out of him. Though Mathan was never a close friend of his but never in his life could he have expected to hear what he was hearing right now. He felt his heart tighten in his chest as he thought about Gen and the haunted look in her eyes earlier that morning. "NoOo...!!", he screamed as he stormed out of his apartment, not caring about the details that Sam has yet to pour out. He felt like a blinded man, not quite seeing where he was going and whats coming his way, as he walked down the road. His head started pounding harder as the events of the morning replayed in his mind, "Noo!!", he screamed again, with his head in his hands and pain written all over his face, making the people around him stop and stare his way as if he's out of his mind, and that's exactly he felt at that moment. He knew he just had to be with his little Gen and that's where he headed.

Sitting with her head resting on the head of couch, Gen was staring at the ceiling as if it had answers to all her questions, while tears kept rolling down her cheeks. She'd been sitting here for what seemed like hours now but the clock on the wall claimed that its just been 30mins since she walked Sam & Anna out the door. She mustered up all her courage and got up to take a shower, thinking it'ld calm her nerves down a bit. Stepping in the shower she thought about the events of the day and couldn't help but shed a few more tears at how it had turned out to be. She really was looking forward to meet Zack but she must've embraced herself for what had happened. It was supposed to occur given the fact that he really had no idea how much her world had changed in the course of just 2 years. She fought back the urge to scream thinking about it; about her Matty. She'd known him all her life. They were literally childhood sweethearts, been together since high school. Everybody knew about them; about how perfect they were together; about how madly they were in love with one another; about how they were going to be together till death do them apart, and death is what parted them after all. She cried as she thought how different and beautiful her life would've been if only she hadn't insisted to take him there, that dreadful day. She looked down at the ring in her left-hand ring finger, that she never took off since the day he'd put it on, and felt like she'd pass out with the ache that shot through her heart. She just couldn't believe sometimes that the incident really did happened in her life. Sometimes, like then, she felt like she'ld step into her room and he'ld surprise her by pulling her into his arms and hug her tight enough to make it hard for her to breath, before kissing her gently yet passionately. It was hard for her to just believe that the handsome face, she woke up to every morning for a good 5 years of her life, doesn't exist in this world anymore. Her heart broke every time she realized she would never hear him tell her how much he loves her in his deep voice, touch his well-toned muscular body, see his gorgeous face lighting up to her, or gaze into his deep hazel eyes sparkling with honesty, ever again till she lives. This thought always made her want to end her life and reach him where he now was and she probably would've done it if she didn't cared about her family.

She came out of the shower and put on an over-sized t-shirt that had initially belonged to Mathan and some shorts to go with them. Hugging the tee around herself tightly, she let her really long brown hair loose, letting them dry by themselves. She knew it'ld be impossible for her today to hold herself together, so she just gave herself up to her emotions that were ready to break the dams through her eyes. She took out the photographs that were the only proof left that he really did existed and was not a mere dream, that she'ld started believing he was lately. Holding a close-up photo of him smiling, she touched it as if she'ld actually feel his skin through it. She smiled sadly through tears falling down her cheeks on the photograph in her hands as she remembered how he was singing their song to her, to make her smile as she was down, when this picture was clicked:

Your the apple to my pie, your the straw to my berry,

Your the smoke to my high, & your the one 'm gonna marry.......

He reached her apartment in a completely dishevelled state and smiled slightly as he found her spare key exactly where he remembered her keeping 2 years ago; under the door mat. But the smile wiped off his face as soon as he remembered why he was there and was replaced by a look no one thought he was capable of, not even him himself. A look of deep concern, hurt and compassion. He stepped into the warm apartment and looked around at the all too familiar surroundings. Everything was still exactly where it used to be except for a few additions here and there but then everything about it seemed different to him today. The big comfy couch in front of the big home theatre, a coffee table beside it and a smaller couch in the side, he took in the details of the living room as he walked by it, noticing the photo-wall, where Gen had placed picture of every important event of her life and unsurprisingly half of them were of Mathan and her together.

The house was completely silent except for hushed sounds of her sobs coming from her bedroom, and the sounds literally made him feel like some one has shot a bullet straight through his heart. He entered the bedroom to a sight that completely caught him off-guard. Photographs were scattered all around the floor and in the midst of them, sat Gen cross-legged, with her face flushed and her eyes swollen and bloodshot red, her slightly damp long brown wavy hair swept to one side falling down her lap, where she was holding a photo in her hands, tears falling down her beautiful face. She was looking at the photo so intently as if she thought staring at it hard enough, would bring it to life, and with all his heart he wished that was possible.

"Gen", he whispered so softly that it felt like he didn't even said it.....
