Ming lightly bounced Pete in his arms, trying to soothe the fussy baby. Kit was sitting a few feet away on the park bench, feeding Mick who was behaving perfectly for his daddy, and dozing off while drinking his meal. A lovely sight captured Ming's attention, a few yards away behind Kit were a very young woman and a little girl. Ming kept glancing over at them.
The young woman knelt in front of the little girl, a sad smile on her face as she handed the little girl a ball. The little girl walked away, happily throwing the ball into the air and catching it again as it came down. The woman spotted Ming watching them before he could turn away.
He turned away anyway, cheeks burning from embarrassment at being seen, and rocked Pete as the baby finally settled down with his little eyes closing in exhaustion. "That's a good boy, Pete. Such a good boy for mommy. Get some sleep, little one."
"Excuse me, sir?"
Ming tensed, and slowly looked over his shoulder. It was the same young woman. "Um...yes?"
"Do you think you could keep an eye on my kid for a few minutes?" The woman shifted on her feet nervously, eyes darting about. "I'm sorry for asking, but...I need to go buy some things for today, and she wants to plays so badly, and I couldn't say no, but I can see you're busy with your own child, and-"
"What's her name?" Ming asked kindly, smiling reassuringly at the woman.
Her expression eased. "Sanwan. She's only eight years old, and very easy to take care of! I'm sorry to be asking you, since we're strangers and everything, but...I find it hard to distrust a man rocking a baby with so much love in his eyes."
Ming's smile grew. "He's my son. My fiancé is over there on the bench with the other one."
The woman looked over. "Oh, you have twins?"
"Yes, both boys. My fiancé and I would be happy to keep an eye on Sanwan. Is there a number I can call in case something happens?"
"Yes, yes, I have my phone right here," the woman pulled out an outdated phone and handed it over to Ming so he could enter his number. "Thank you so, so much for doing this for me. I'll repay you when I can."
"It's no trouble," Ming laughed softly, looking over at little Sanwan as she ran after the ball. "She's such a cutie. And don't worry about repaying us," he held up a hand when the woman started to protest. "I wouldn't dream of accepting anything. Besides, getting to play with her will be enough repayment. I like kids," he laid a gentle kiss on Pete's forehead. "Hope to have a daughter of my own in the future."
The woman blinked back tears, grateful to the young man. "Thank you so much. Oh, my name's Nina. Sorry, my brain's all over the place."
"I'm Ming. Don't worry," he started to turn towards Sanwan. "We'll make sure she has fun and stays put till you get back, Nina."
