The guy drowns himself in the book. This is probably his 100th time reading this book. He always seemed irritated and complained how the book ended, yet he couldn't stop reading it. It was his guilty pleasure. But today he seemed a bit distracted. He felt someone watching him read. It must the stupid neighbor's cat, he thought. He flipped his beautiful black hair from his face to look around, but nothing. He finally placed the book on the table and went to the kitchen. He took out a glass from the top shelf and poured some chilly cold water in the glass making sure to not make a mess.

When he placed the glass on the sink, he felt hungry too. He ordered a pizza not wanting to cook then decided to make a sandwich while he waited. Just as he was about to take a bite, the black cat jumped from behind the couch and snatched the sandwich. Stupid cat, he thought trying to catch it. The cat ran to the living room and stood right above the book he was reading.

"Step away you stupid cat!" He warned the cat. The black cat stared at him with green eyes that could give grown man chills. He slowly made his way towards the cat. But the cat was far too smart. He jumped out of the window.

In attempt to catch the cat he tried to jump on him, but fell instead. The fall wasn't a normal one, it felt like falling into the darkness. He waited for his head to hit the floor but he never did. Neither there was anything to catch and save himself from falling. His medium long hair fell all over his face. Is this how I die? Because my neighbor can't keep her cat on leash? He cursed his neighbor.

He accepted his fate that it was his last day. He would hit the floor, wound his head and bleed to death. But he was so wrong. It felt like a tunnel he was falling from. He saw a light at the end and made a failed attempt to scream his lungs out.

He landed on his feet, feeling quite dizzy. What the hell was that? The confused look on his face said it all well. He was standing alone in a unfamiliar corridor with no one around. He felt relieved to be alive.

He looked around and the corridor didn't feel new all of sudden. He felt all to familiar with his surrounding suddenly. How did he get there though? Did someone drug him?

Rubbing his head, he tried to remember the events that took place. He was reading his favourite book, then got hungry so made a sandwich but the neighbors cat snatched it and ran away. He tried to catch it and the sharp light, tunnel? Did he really die?

His feet instinctively move towards the door at the end of the corridor. Some memories were floating in his head that were not his. Is this how after life felt like?

Maybe he could ask someone? If there is someone. Even if he was new to the environment he had the memories of entering this apartment before. Thinking what could go wrong, he took in a sharp breath he pressed the bell.

Dingdong.

The bell rang and Ashley huffed at the disturbance. She was finally getting to the interesting part of the book. Pulling a book mark exactly where she stopped she closed the book and got up to get the door. A glance outside the window and she wondered who it could be during sharp afternoon.

She just hoped it wouldn't be Ryan. She didn't want to disappoint him for she hadn't even started getting ready for their date tonight. Although he was too early, she knew about his temper. Ryan was her 'dearest' fiancé with not so severe anger issues.

Ding Dong.

The door rang again and she peeked the peep hole before opening the lock to see her best friend standing at the door.

"Alex?" She smiled opening the door. The guy standing outside gave her a  questioning look before returning her smile. She moved aside to let him in and with a bit of hesitation he entered and locked the door.

"So you finally remember that you have a poor, little, damsel in distress like best friend?" She whined dramatically. He chuckled breathily at her introduction making his way towards the couch to sit on it. She followed him and sat on the chair beside the couch.

Alex was quite taller than her even while sitting. With his medium long black hair styled perfectly and those dark black eyes, he gave off mysterious vibes, which was quite opposite of what he was.

"Why are you here... Now?" She asked staring at him for a while. He seemed to be thinking of something. Quite lost in his thoughts, he got startled when she poked his right shoulder.

"I can't be here to see you?" He chuckled suspiciously and she narrowed her eyes at him. He seemed tense for some reason and she didn't like it. It was totally out of his character.

"Can I get some water?" He asked and she nodded walking to the kitchen. Weird that he didn't comment on her date tonight? Placing a filled glass in a tray, she returned to the living room to find him gone. The front door was slightly open. Why did he leave like that?

Strange...
