The so-called independent journalist, Dharmesh Thakkar has been accused of alleged links with the most wanted drug peddler named Sikander Cheemu in a tweet published by Amit Tiwari, Secretary of Yuva Morcha BJP.

The Santacruz resident Sikandar Cheemu (40) was previously arrested in possession of 50 kg of the banned drug, mephedrone, known as MD under the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act in a DRI haul in Mumbai. In a Twitter post published by Amit Tiwari, Dharmesh Thakkar is seen posing for a picture with Sikandar Cheemu in a pool in Goa.

Tiwari has also tagged the Mumbai Police, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), news agencies like UNI, ANI, PTI, Aaj Tak, Mid-day, Times of India etc in the same post.

Dharmesh Thakkar's Twitter account often covers drug cartels and raids organised by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). However, in the name of independent journalism, Thakkar has been allegedly involved in the drug cartel business in Mumbai and playing it safe away from the NCB radar.

This is not the first time he has been in the public eye for his unethical behaviour. Dharmesh Thakkar was also found falsely accusing his house help of "poisoning" his family at their family home in suburban Khar.

Thakkar and his family had accused his house help of the main motive of robbery with an accusation of stealing Rs. 4000 and a mobile phone. However, in spite of spending three years in jail, there was no evidence found in record against the house help and was later acquitted after chemical analyser's (CA) report ruled out poisoning in the food sample in 2016 citing lack of evidence.

Such journalists in the industry like Dharmesh Thakkar ruin the ethical credibility of journalism in India. With the already drowning fate of Indian journalism that is merely grasping for breath with its fake news, corrupted content and Godi media, such independent journalists are looked up as the only source of reporting accurate and the unbiased truth. Sadly, that is also slowly disappearing with the case of Thakkar.
