This is the story of the day I hit the peak of my existence. I want to start at the beginning though, the day that led up to it.
I turn and look out the rain-painted window, the radio playing faintly in the background. I love having the radio on at all times, it makes me feel like I'm in a coming-of-age movie. The sound of the wheel turning, the push of the gas pedal, they're all so familiar. I felt so comfortable here because I had done the same routine millions of times. I had a long day at work, and I was tired. I pull into the driveway of my apartment complex and push the palms of my hands to my eyes until I see stars. I slowly trudge up the cement stairs and put my hand on the chipped paint railing. I reach my apartment door and stick my key in the rusting lock. I unlock the door and walk into my apartment. The interior of my apartment was a stark contrast from the drab shades of gray outside. I fell onto my colorful couch and pulled out my phone. I decided that I wanted to go out tonight. I called up my friend John. Some things you should know about John, he is the craziest, most outrageous person I know. He answers after two rings and asks me what's up. "What shows are going on tonight," I ask. I go to a lot of shows downtown, and I usually go with John. He answers, "Cement Flowers are playing tonight, but do you wanna catch a bite before?" I love Cement Flowers and have gone to one of their shows alone before. I answered him without any hesitation, "Sure, that sounds great!" We chat about insignificant things and eventually, we hang up.
One hour later, I'm ready to go. I wear a simple light green tank top and ripped skinny black jeans. I straightened my usually curly hair and it fans across my back. I grab my black and silver purse and wait for John. I hear a buzzing at my door and suddenly hear John's voice. "C'mon Sam, I'm not waiting!" I smile as soon as I hear his voice and run out the door, locking it behind me. He's leaning against his car when I get down to the parking lot. John drives a black hardtop Jeep and I take every chance I can to ride in it. "You know we could've met at the restaurant," he says. "Yeah but it's more fun when you drive, and less gas to buy for me," I shoot back. He grins and tells me to get in, we drive downtown and talk about the night that is to come. John speaks after a long silence. "My friend might be joining us for the concert tonight, I think you'll like him" I kinda wanted a quiet night with my friend, but if John thinks I'll like him, I probably will.
