Tommy POV
I woke up in an unfamiliar place, the smell of old unused furniture seeped into my nose. The atmosphere around me was different than it usually was. The air felt thicker and more humid than it usually did, it was laced with the scent of life. Somewhere in the distance the unfamiliar call of a bird echoed through the silence; possibly a routine wake up call of sorts. Beyond the song of the birds and the scent of lush humid air were the faint grumbles of the undead, taunting the living, saying in some foreign language, look out you're next.
I grogly sat up and rubbed my eyes. As suspected I was not where I though I was going to be. For all I remember I should be in a cold, hard, rocky cave outside my hometown. Not in some house god knows where.
Then everything came back to me.
We were in the city.
We were in the most unsafe place possible, but right now it felt nothing but safe. The calm environment didn't feel like it was crawling with threats. Instead it felt welcoming. Regardless of how it felt I knew this wasn't a safe place.
I looked further around the room we had decided to sleep in and noticed that both Ranboo and Tubbo were still asleep. Typical. I was almost always the first one awake, but that didn't make it any less boring. Usually that meant I was in charge of making breakfast and cleaning up the mess we made the night before.
I sighed and got out of my sleeping bag, I tiptoed as quietly as possible in an attempt to not wake the others and went in search of the kitchen. I soon found it only a few rooms over. I cautiously opened cupboards looking to see if this house had any edible food that would make a sufficient Breakfast for the three of us. I found many thing among the cupboards such as some moldy bread, some stale crackers and the occasional mouse (Dead or alive). It wasn't until the last cupboard that I finally found some canned food. I grabbed a can of Spagettio's and turned the faded can around in search of an expiration date: November 19, 2028. Perfect. My good mood was shattered when I remembered that there was no source of heat to warm up the pasta so we would have to eat it cold. That was until I turned around and noticed a small propane powered stove top. My eyes widened with excitement as I frantically checked to see if there was still propane in the canister. To my surprise there was.
I rummaged thought the drawers until I found a pot and a can opener, then I began to cook. For the first time in what felt like forever I was actually going to be able to eat a meal that wasn't cold or cooked over a fire.
Not long after I began heating up our Breakfast, Ranboo walked into the kitchen, still rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Smells good, what are you making?" he mumbled.
"I found some Spagettio's and a propane stove so we get to have an actually warm breakfast for once." I replied, a smile on my face. "Where's Tubs?"
"Still asleep. Big surprise there." The sarcastic comment was accompanied by a yawn.
I noticed the pasta was beginning to boil so I removed it from the heat and turned off the precious stove. I grabbed three bowls and evenly distributed the food. As I did Tubbo finally decided to join us, giving a quick 'mornin' in greeting before immediately grabbing a bowl and digging in.
---------------------
After Breakfast we packed up our things in case we didn't come back to the house later and began the anticipated exploring of the city.
Weapons drawn at all times, we maneuvered our way through the city Stopping every now and again when someone wanted to look at something or when we found a shop that might be worth looting.
This continued on for about an hour before Tubbo let out an excited scream and ran off into a nearby clearing.
Ranboo and I followed worried as to why Tubbo had run off, only to find him sitting contently in the middle of a massive flower field weaving flower crowns.
Typical Tubbo.
We ended up deciding now would be a good place to rest before we went into the heat of the city.
An hour later we were back on the streets looking for more supplies.
Luckily today was another sunny day so there was not many zombies lurking around outside. This made our adventure much less threatening.
As we drew closer to the middle of the city the foliage became thicker, until there was almost no concrete in sight. The once bustling city was now one with the earth. It was like mother nature had taken back what was rightfully hers. The concrete jungle, now a real jungle. It was surreal never in a million year could one picture a city like this become completely taken over by plant life. It was truly extraordinary. We stood and gawked as the birds flew circles around out heads, and the wind ruffle the vibrant green leafs that clung to the trees. I wished I had a camera in moments like these, but then again a photo would never be able to capture this moment quite right.
We eventually were snapped out of our daze by reality and we resumed our supply run.
--------------------------
Hours later the sun was beginning to set and we were finally making our way back to the house we stayed at last night.
However the sun was setting faster than I anticipated and we were nowhere near the house. I considered just sleeping in another house for the night, but I didn't think staying this far into the city was a good idea so we kept going.
News flash. Bad idea.
As soon as the sun ducked behind the horizon zombies started coming into the streets left, right and center. We did our best to avoid them but it was impossible there were too many.
We were now backed into an alley between 2 large buildings not far from the house. Zombies crowded around us, blocking our path out.
We were stuck. Big time.
We frantically swung our weapons as a last attempt at protecting ourselfs.
"We have no choice, we have to try to run through them" I shouted. It was risky but if we didn't there was no possible way we would get out of this situation and it would just give the zombies more of a chance to kill us. "On the count of three we have to go."
"One."
"Two."
"Three."
I lunged forward into the hoard of zombies. I swung my axe with all my might clearing a decent path for myself to get through. I burst through the mob and began sprinting away from the place I thought for sure I was going to die in. I only turned around to look for Tubbo and Ranboo once I was sure I was far enough away. When I turned around I could only see Tubbo.
I stopped, panting, waiting for Tubbo to catch up and for Ranboo to burst through the crowd of undead. Sweat was dripping down my body coating me in a sticky warmth. By the time Tubbo had cought up Ranboo still hadn't come out of the alley.
"Tubbo, Where is R-" my sentence was cut short by a shrill blood curdling scream.
