chapter 4:
fear

everyone was sitting on the floor. Lots were in shock or crying. I thought about what would have happened if I hadn't made it. If I died.
Without giving much time to think, the people with the red suits came in.
"congratulations everyone. you all made it through the first round. you will be able to participate in the second." one of the red men said.
"out of 456 people participating, 255 people were eliminated." loud gasps of surprise were made by the players. a lot of people were in shock from the results. "255 people dead in 5 minutes. damn, that's a lot."
"201 participants remain" the red man continued.
People started begging on their knees to leave the games.
One person said, "please sir, I have a child! I still need to register the baby's name!"
Other remarks similar to this were made. People were willing to do anything to leave.
Lots of people had reasons to be alive, to be set free. They all had families, children, and I understand. But for a fact I knew, I would NOT be leaving. my life there is worse than being here. I need money and then I can finally set free from my uncle. But not everyone's situation was like mine. To be true, if I was in their shoes 8 probably would've been doing the same.

"There seems to be a misunderstanding, we are not trying to hurt you. We want to give you a chance." The main red man spoke.
I chuckled at his words. 'hm, killing is a GAME now ? what has this stupid world turned into' I said in my head.
other people said similar things to what I had thought.
one person said, "we may be in debt ... but that doesn't justify killing us"

one of the red guards replied, "it's just a game"
as soon as the guard shot there were instant whispers.
I honestly couldn't care less about what they were going to do, but felt bad for people who did.

"Killing everyone out there is a game now, huh." someone spoke
'actually though, killing people isn't a game, like what... taking someone's life just because they lose . now that's seriously messed up.'

"They were eliminated for breaking the rules, if you follow the rules you can leave here safely with prize money we promised."
"Consent form clause 3;if all players agree to leave, the games will end. Or am I wrong?" a man in the back said.
"you are correct" a manager said.
"before we begin voting, let me announce the prize money."

"a total of 255 players were eliminated during the first round. 100 million won is at stake of each player. therefore, 25.5 billion won is at stake of each player. If you wish to give up on playing, your 25.5 billion won will be given to the bereaved families of the late players, 100 million won each. however, you will all return home empty handed."

"sir, so if we can complete all 6 games, how much prize money do we win ?" the same woman that was begging to leave asked.

"since there were 456 players, 45.6 billion won."

"and with that we will begin voting. as you can see, there are two buttons in front of you. if you wish to continue playing, press the green button with an 'o'. if you wish to stop playing, press the red button with a 'x' instead. after you finish voting, go to other side of the white line and wait. voting will be done in reverse order of the number on your chests."

i take a look at my number, 221. in the middle. thats good. i'll have time to think but i will also not have the pressure of being last.

"player 456, please cast your vote." he pressed the x.

same thing happened for a while, x, o, o, x. from what i saw, the votes seemed to be equal or very similar.

"player 221, please cast your vote."

i walked up. i didn't hesitate to press the o.

same routine happened again.

"player 067,please cast your vote."

'player 67, player 67. i loved that girl. i didnt even know her name. i wanted to start a conversation with her so bad. dude shes fucking voting. wrong time smartass.' another voice in my head shot back to the first one.

i sighed. 'you know, if majority decided to stay they i will start a conversation with her, ok.' i told myself.

i glanced at player 067. she pressed o without any second thoughts. i wondered if she had a shitty life like me.

i didnt realize i spent the rest of the time thinking about 067, her life outside of here, and just how hot she was until all the voting had ended.

The last person had voted.

"51 to stay and 50 to leave"

'majority wins. i am staying here until these games end.'
