TW: Blood

"Niki just go whenever you are ready," You shouted back. She nodded. She took a deep breath and stepped into the river. Immediately, you placed your hands around the rope and started pulling her across. Behind Niki you saw birds in the distance flying and you could hear horns blowing. Your heart skipped a beat. The prison was going in lockdown mode. You saw Niki grasp the rope on her end. Your arms were aching from pulling, but you couldn't stop...not now. You heard Niki give out yelp, and you felt the need to get her to you even quicker. You saw a small hint of red in the water and you realized that she had cut herself somewhere. You grabbed Niki's hand and pulled her out. "Are you okay?" You scanned for any injuries. Her leg was bleeding. Oh gosh. Niki collapsed into your arms. "Hey you're going to be ok."

"In my bag...gauze..." Niki was wincing from the pain.

"Ok," you breathed heavily. "I need to wash this." You carefully laid Niki near the river and gently moved her leg as close as you could to the water. You splashed water on her cut, rinsing the blood off. You immediately wrapped the gauze around the wound tightly but now too tight to hurt her. You finished your job. It wasn't the best job but it will have to do for now. "I'll have to carry you." Niki nodded you picked up her bag and turned your back to her. Niki wrapped her arms around your neck and you put your arms under her legs.

"Never really had a piggyback ride."

"No?" You chuckled as you held the compass in front of you. You couldn't help but notice the word "Dream" engraved in it. You moved through the woods as carefully as possible as to not hurt Niki even more. Night was falling and there was no way you could travel through night with Niki injured. You weren't going to risk her life. You looked at the trees and placed her down.

"Uh what's going on?" Niki looked at you quizzically.

"We're going to build a shelter. I'm not going to lose you." You worked hard while Niki encouraged you from her spot. It wasn't the best shelter but it was something to keep the both of you safe for the night. You picked Niki up bridal style and placed her down in a bundle of blankets you found. You shut the door behind you and sat down beside her. Niki nestled closer to you for warmth and security. You heard a zombie groan outside. You inwardly hoped that nothing got in that night.
