Chapter 1
I walked out of the day care with my high hopes of finding Bry completely gone. I looked everywhere for him, the park, school, daycare, anywhere I thought he would go. What had I been thinking? I was too busy with my studies that I hadn’t even realized he had token off. It was my responsibility to watch him while dad was out for some spar of the moment meeting and wouldn’t be back until after eight.
I began to walk down the sidewalk to where I had parked my car. I was so caught up in trying to finding Bry I hadn’t noticed it had gotten so late, it was nearly night fall. I just about to open my car door when I felt a hand crawl up my neck and towards my mouth pushing me against the car door. The movement happened so fast the only thing I caught was the white neatly folded handkerchief as it made its way on to my mouth, dragging me to unconsciousness but not before I locked eyes with the man’s piercing green orbs, taking in his features so that when I awoken I would know who to knock out first.
I awaked abruptly with a sudden jolt of electricity coursing through my body filling me with sharp needles of stabbing pain in a million places. I tried to scream but it came out as incoherent cries that were blocked due to the rough cloth in between my lips. I could feel the heat radiating off my body as the sweat took its place on the outer layer of my skin.
I wanted to open my eyes but I was so afraid of what I would see when I did open them. But I had to, needed to. My little brother was wandering around all alone and I had to find him. I was all that he had.
Instead of opening my eyes I chose to see with my ears. There were very little sounds other than the cycling of a fan near bye. My heart quickened as I listened closer. I could hear the faint sound of someone breathing that was almost impossible to spot. They were tapping their foot impatiently almost as if they were waiting for me to wake up and go hysterical. But I wouldn’t, knowing that’s probably exactly what they wanted.
The tapping stopped and I heard them get up from where they were sitting. I concentrated on keeping my breathing even so that they still thought I was asleep. I think they believed I was still sleeping, (although I find it very hard for someone to sleep through an electrical shock) because the next noise I hear was a door being opened and closed.
As soon as the click of the door locking I opened my eyes and bolted up right ignoring the pain that was shooting through my body.
The room was dimly lit by a lamp next to a blood red couch. The walls trapping me in were a shocking royal blue that made the red couch even more vibrant. I looked down and found myself sitting on another blood red couch. I tried to stand up but as soon as the back of my heel came in contact with the cold cement floor I fell back onto the couch with a grunt of surprise. I could feel something cold clamped around both wrists. I arched my back around so I could see what was imprisoning me. I was trapped with steel chains locking around my wrists along with a silver pole that touched the ceiling as it met with the floor behind the couch. I put one leg over the couch while putting all my weight on the other, preparing to jump off.
When I did jump off I tried to land on my feet but instead I crumbled to the floor bringing the chains along with me. It wasn’t that the couch was high off the ground because it wasn’t. It was because my legs felt like they’d shatter into pieces underneath me if I put any amount of weight on them. I sat uncomfortably on the ice cold cement floor looking closely at the chains try find a way to unlock them. But on the other side of the pole I found a dead bolt barricading the chains making it impossible for me to break free without a key.
I pulled on the chains refusing to believe I couldn’t get out of them. I yanked with all my might on the chains but each time it felt as if they were getting tighter around my wrists, removing the blood flow and leaving numbness in its place.
