Light has to fight to keep the oncoming laughter at bay and to keep his smirk well hidden. Pure joy burns throughout his entire body, his heart pounding hard against his chest as he watches everything he created fall into place.

All his work has finally paid off. He won. He beat the greatest master detective. He beat the famous, almighty Ryuzaki – he beat L.

He bites down on his tongue, watching the screens flash those three, joyful words in bold letters against the white screen: ALL DATA DELETION.

L stared in shock as all of the computer monitors flashed ALL DATA DELETION. His heart ached as he realized what it meant; Watari was dead. There was panic in the room as the team searched for the Shinigami. L did not move from his crouched position as memories flashed in his mind: Watari holding his hand as a small child, hearing the church bells in the cold winter air as snow swirled in front of the stained glass windows.

The seconds ticked by. He was almost one hundred percent sure that he was next, that his heart would stop and he would die.

This was a dream come true. Oh, this is perfect. He never knew victory could taste so sweet, so wonderful.

Light hides the sinister look in his deadly eyes as he watches L drop the spoon he was holding; the utensil falling and then slightly bouncing across the hard floor with the sound of the impact echoing in the suddenly deadly silent room.

Whatever words L was trying to say dies before they could escape passed his lips. His entire body freezes for a split second before it slowly begins to fall out of his chair.

Everything seems to be happening in slow motion.

Just for the icing on the cake, Light leaps forward, catching L's falling body in his arms before hitting the ground. Cradling L in his arms, he stares into his dimming eyes, his smirk finally exposing to the dying detective.

L looks up at Light, staring at the sinister smirk plastered across his killer's face. He could see the way he is trying to hold in his laughter, not wanting the other detectives to hear his menacing victory laugh.

If he ever had any doubts beforehand about Light being Kira, they instantly dissipate once he lays his tired eyes on Light's face. He thinks he won; he thinks he finally killed the one person who was smart enough to figure out who Kira really was.

Well I already knew this would happen. Oh Watari! I'm sorry for causing trouble to you as well.

Don't worry Light! If you think that you won then you are mistaken. I already knew I was going to die today and thus prepared everything in advance for my successors Near and Mello. You are doomed.

And thus with his final thoughts L went to the other side of the world.

L felt his body become weightless as he stared out into oblivion…nothing but darkness…a vortex of loneliness. "So…this is what dying feels like." It felt like nothing…like a lucid dream of space, set hundreds of miles away from earth…floating…with nothing left to loose. It was rather frightening, though at the same time, it felt comfortable. It felt rather dark. "It's a wonder how I ended up here. I've been so blind…blinded by what, false hope? No. Hope is merely a masquerade for the weak. Even I'm not that senseless…and I'm not senseless. I know I'm not…I'm L. I'm the man who died fighting for justice. My death shall not be in vain. I am L Lawliet, special detective, almost undefeated. I am justice."
