Title is the song 'Hum dum' from movie 'Shiddat'

The week after holi was quite hectic, both at office and home. Rohan returned to Mumbai to wind up things, so he could come back for the wedding and stay longer. While Naina, Sameer and Vivek remained busy at office, nanu helped Vishakha to finish the last minute preparations, since he had decided to take retirement from work now.

It was towards the end of the week, just after the gruelling book closing procedure was done with that Naina received a call on intercom from Sameer, "Can you come for a minute? Papa ko kuch kaam hai."

Vivek was seated in Sameer's room when she reached He gestured her to take the seat next to Sameer on the sofa, "Maine tumhe isliye bulaya kyonki tum hi Sameer se haan karwa sakti ho."

She gave a questioning look to her husband, who shrugged, "Papa ne abhi tak kuch bataya hi nahi. Kehne lage tumhare saamne hi baat karenge."

Vivek gave a tentative look to Sameer, then turned back his focus on her, "Naina, har saal year end ke baad hamari business community ka ek bada event hota hai. Pehle papaji attend karte the phir main aur Vishakha jaane lage. Lekin iss baar hum nahi jaa payenge, kyonki mere dost ke bete ki shaadi hai jo attend karna zaruri hai. Mujhe pata hai Sameer ko iss tarah ki parties bilkul pasand nahi lekin isse party na samajh ke ek formal requirement maan lo. Beta, hamari company se agar koi nahi hoga toh achha nahi lagega. I want both of you to go."

Sameer was flustered at the suggestion, "Papa, hai toh party hi na. It doesn't matter. Ek saal miss kar bhi diya toh kya hua."

Vivek tried again, "Sameer, party hai lekin connections maintain karne ke liye crucial hai. Agar miss kar sakte toh main tujhe kehta hi nahi. Aur ab toh Naina bhi hai tere saath. Thodi der ke liye chale jao."

Before Sameer could object again, Naina placed a hand on his arm, "Chalte hain na, Sameer. Papa ko shaadi mein jaane do, yeh kaam hum kar lenge. Aur phir normal si party hai, problem kya hai chalne mein?"

Sameer was clearly displeased, "Naina, wahan mostly log ek doosre ke competitors hote hain. Party mein enjoy karne nahi ek doosre ko taunts maarne aur information nikalwane aate hain. Unki values mujhe pasand nahi... they are ready to go to any level to get clients. Nanu aur papa ke jaise nahi hote zyadatar log. Aisi jagah jaane se sirf gussa hi aata hai."

Vivek gave him a pleading look, "Sameer, hum bhi khushi se nahi majboori se jaate hain. Lekin kuch kaam zaruri hote hain isliye napasand hote hue bhi karne padte hain. Aur aisa toh nahi hai ki hum unke jaise ban gaye hain ya unke jaisi soch apna lenge. Waise bhi, sab ek jaise nahi hain. Chand galat logon ki wajah se sabko ek tarah judge karna theek nahi hoga. Mr Mehra, jo har saal yeh party organise karte hain, unki reputation kitni strong hai."

Naina nodded, "Papa theek keh rahe hain Sameer. I think we should go."

He turned to her, agitated, but she blinked at him in assurance.

Looking back at Vivek, she smiled, "Aap aaram se shaadi enjoy kijiye papa. Iss event mein hum chale jayenge."

After Vivek left, Sameer stood up, his brows creased, "Maine socha tha hum dono kahin dinner pe chalenge... kisi achhi si jagah. Lekin ab yahan jaana padega."

Naina got up to stand in front of him, "Dinner pe hi toh jayenge... iss party mein."

He glanced at the door, then pulled her to himself, one arm around her waist, "Aisa dinner nahi... sirf main aur tum."

His sudden pull, that too when the door wasn't locked, sent shivers through her. Huskiness of his voice didn't help either. She looked into his eyes. They glittered in the well lit room.
