Little Fili had trouble sleeping this night. Especially since it was raining extraordinarily hard, the roars of the thunder outside frightened him. All he did was hide under his covers and hoped it would all end soon. But no, many hours passed and still, he couldn't sleep at all. Suddenly, Thorin walked in to check on his nephew, only to see him cowering underneath the covers.
"Fili? Are you still awake?" Thorin asked as he peered into his room. Fili uncovered himself, nodding his head.
"Why aren't you asleep?"
"I'm- I'm scared, uncle." Fili stuttered out.
"Scared of what?" Before Fili could answer, another roar of thunder sounded from outside, causing him to hide himself again. Thorin now realized what was going on. He couldn't blame him for being afraid. He remembers perfectly when he was a child, he would also be afraid of the sound of thunder. His father would read him bedtime stories to help ease his mind and eventually make him fall asleep. So he now knew what he had to do.
"Do you want me to read you a story? It'll make you feel better." Thorin asked, Fili nodding before he left to pick out a book.
Thorin came back and sat on Fili's bed. He read him a story about an ogre who was constantly misunderstood. Then one day he had to go on a quest to save a princess from a dragon. It was a fun, action packed story and before Thorin could have finished, he heard the silent snores of his nephew beside him. He tucked him in and said another goodnight as he left the room.
Since Thorin went to check on Fili, he felt that he needed to also check on Kili. Quietly opening the door and peering through, he saw his little nephew soundly asleep, cuddling with a stuffed bear. Thorin smiled as he gently shut the door.
