Under the stars, you’ll fall for me
I repeated that phrase in my head all the time. It brings me so much sadness, whenever I think about it. I remember her...and I remember the time we had together. I remember her flowing brown hair and beautiful green eyes that sparkled with life whenever she smiles.
“Carl!” I could hear her calling me. But I pretend to ignore her as I stood at the balcony just outside our classroom. She stood next to me and started poking my sides. “Hey...Carl! Why are you ignoring me?!” she whined. I chuckled to myself, thinking of how adorable she was when she does that. She’s irresistible when she acts cute.
I smiled, turning to face her and lightly pinched her right cheek. “Sorry, I was just messing with you Lyn.”
Lyn puffed out her cheeks and glared at me with those beautiful green eyes of hers. “Hmph. You’re lucky you’re my best friend. Otherwise I would’ve kicked you already.”
I laughed at her reaction and ruffled her hair. “Yeah, yeah. I know. Sorry.”
Her smile returned to her lips and it made her eyes brightened up even more. That made me fall for her even more...
Lyn and I had been friends since we were in Kindergarten. People often teased us, as if we were a real couple. Of course, she would deny those claims. And I was left wishing that it would be true. I knew that I was (best) friendzoned but she doesn’t. And maybe it’s for the best. I can’t risk losing her.
I was happy enough to accept that she could only see us as friends.
She and I walked to our class together and I noticed the number of guys staring at her. I suddenly felt a pang of jealousy but I thought-Who wouldn’t?
Lyn was beautiful-there was nothing artificial about her. Her hair, brown and soft that fell across her back and shoulders in a cascade of waves; bright green eyes that sparkled whenever she smiled or laughed; skin like a porcelain doll. And a kind heart to match.
She’s the type of girl everyone wants to get to know; the type of girl they all want to date and protect. She was everyone’s ray of sunshine.
It didn’t took much to love her-she was beautiful inside and out.
We took our usual seats at the back row- a place where we could be alone and the teacher wouldn’t even notice what we were doing.
Our lesson for that day was about constellations. Lyn was listening to the lecture because of that, because she loves stars.
“When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut or an astronomer. So that I can see and observe stars everyday” she told me years back.
I love the way her face, eyes and smile brightens up whenever she talks about the specks of dust in the sky. I couldn’t help but to fall for her even more.
Lyn has this way of making me smile in the simplest way that she can-by telling a corny joke, by being her usual clumsy self or being this radiant sunshine who lights up my world.
People kept asking me if I had a crush on Lyn. I never answered it directly but due to my not-so-careful actions, they found out that I do. They kept their mouth shut, of course. But that didn’t stop them from teasing me endlessly.
Break time came an I rose from my seat to head out to the cafeteria when suddenly Lyn stood up and roped her arm around mine; almost cuddling my arm, to be exact. “Come on, Carl~ Treat me to some doughnuts or something~”
“Ayiiieee~” our classmates called out, smirking and giggling amongst themselves. I felt myself blush lightly. I pinched her cheek with my free hand. “Stop that, will you? That’s the very reason why they’re teasing us.”
