Finally
A Jily Fanfiction

This oneshot is dedicated to the one and only Abbey Hobson - my koala sister, fellow Potterhead and best friend. You're supermegafoxyawesomehot, and definitely the 10 that Draco is waiting for.

James Potter slouched back in his seat and ran a hand through his unruly black hair. On his right, Sirius Black was tapping his wand absently on the desk absently. The other half of the Marauders - Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew - sat behind them, scribbling down notes as Professor Flitwick droned on at the front of the classroom. James wasn't listening to the tiny professor's rambling. His attention was caught by a certain red-head a few rows in front of him. Lily Evans. She was sitting next to Marlene McKinnon, who Sirius had had a few flings with last year. Lily was paying attention to Flitwick while Marlene threw flirtatious looks around the room. James didn't fall prey to her glances like the other guys in the classroom did, but instead he was mesmerised by the flaming red hair spilling over Lily's shoulder.

"Mr Potter!"

James jumped at the sound of his name being called. He shifted his gaze over to Flitwick, who was watching him impatiently. "Yes, Professor?"

"What is the charm used to turn objects into birds?" Flitwick asked him.

In way of an answer, James flicked his wand lazily at Sirius's quill which he had abandoned on the floor. "Avifors!"

The quill transformed into a small sparrow and started fluttering around the room. There were a few claps and cheers around the classroom. Sirius grinned.

"You owe me a new quill," he told him.

"Like you'll use it," James shot back.

"Good point."

Ahead of them, Lily was whispering something to Marlene. James managed to catch the last the sentence of what she was saying.

"... don't care if he's hot, Marley, he's still a show off."

"Only for you, Evans!" James called to her.

Lily turned and glared at James, her cheeks furiously red. He couldn't help but notice how green her eyes were. "Don't eavesdrop, Potter. It's rude. Though, I wouldn't expect anything less from an arrogant toerag like you."

"Toerag, huh?" James turned to Sirius. "Was that meant to be an insult, Padfoot?"

"I think so, Prongs."

"Along with the fact that she called you rude," Remus added.

"Don't forget the arrogant part," Peter chimed in.

"In that case..." James clutched a hand to his heart and gave Lily his saddest look, as though wounded by her words. "Ah, how could you, Evans? I thought you loved me." He wiped away a fake tear.

Lily snorted. "Keep dreaming, Potter."

"Dreams do come true, you know," James smirked.

The class snickered. Behind him, Remus mouthed at him 'Smooth.' Peter laughed. James just winked at Lily who stuck her tongue out at him.

Flitwick cleared his throat. "Ah yes, very good Mr Potter. But as amusing it is I would take it kindly if you and Miss Evans did not flirt in my class while I am trying to teach."

Lily blushed. "We weren't flirting!" she cried indignantly.

At the same time, James grinned widely and said, "Of course, sir."

Lily snapped back to the front and ignored him for the rest of the class. Severus Snape watched James from where he sat with the other seventh year Slytherins. James noticed his glares and scribbled on a scrap piece of parchment. Jealous? He chucked it at Snape, who read it and scowled. Flitwick continued his speech about the usefulness of certain charms, and which ones they would need to know for their NEWTS. James felt himself almost fall asleep, so the Marauders kept themselves occupied for the remainder of the lesson by passing notes, planning their next prank. James had a feeling this would be his favourite one yet.
