This should be easy.
"So...um are you okay?" I stutter
"God, why does everyone keep asking me that! I'm fine" she snaps back to me, her eyes look so emotionless it actually scares me.
She sighs resting a hand over her eyes.
It's not how it used to be really I could just talk to her with ease and now I feel like I have to guard my words.
"I'm sorry." She responds
I wait silently for her to continue, and when she does it's not what I expected her to say.
"Look. You deserve better than me and I just.." She trails off her eyes filling with tears as she gives me that look.
"What are you saying Al?" I search her eyes to make sure she is not saying what I think she is.
"I think you should go." She says voice breaking
When I leave, I can't hear anything.
My body is numb, voices are muffled by the excruciating pain I feel.
I run and I don't know where but I do.
All I'm left with is this one thought that destroyed and shattered me:
Of course, this has happened before and now it's coming back to me like déjà vu.
I lost the one thing I thought I would forever hold.
