(Ava's pov)
It's been about a month since the games ended. They moved Matt's family to 12 and we all are now in Victors Village. I've become pretty good friends with Matt's twin sister, Lyss, and bonded a lot with Matt. Ben, however, hasn't spoken to me since the games. The normal way of life has become to comfort my sister about her dead boyfriend; hang out with Matt, Lyss, and Lily; help with the Matt and Lily relationship problems; and try to act like my feelings for Ben disappeared and that we never kissed.
The thing is this never worked. It feels like all I ever do anymore is miss Ben and have nightmares about the games. All Matt and Lily do anymore is fight. No romance between the couples is bad news for us, because that's all Snow wants us to do.
The next issue with this is that the victory tour is coming up. With this, we will have to act like we are fine, even though we are broken. Also, we will have to look upon the families that had a child that we murdered. That sounds like fun.
"Ava," Someone came up to me and said. "Avalon, the Sapphire girl, wake up!"
"Ugh I get it," I said to my sister who had woken me up. "And don't call me that Capitol nickname that the idiot from 2 came up with."
"That's no way to talk about someone you killed," Elsie scowled at me. "By them dying, it hurts the people who loved them. I know that all too well."
"Elsie, I didn't mean for Griffin to die for me," I looked down. "He just..."
"Whatever," She turned around and walked away. "The cameras are coming in 4 hours, the prep team in 2. Make sure the others are ready."
It bothers me how Elsie blames me for Griffin dying because I hated him before the games. She never kindly speaks to me anymore and it just bothers me. Well, I guess I should go meet the others at Haymitch's house. As soon as I walked in, the smell of alcohol killed my nose. They were all in there already poking, Lily poking Haymitch with a stick.
"He won't wake up!" Lily growled.
"Maybe if you weren't so stupid," Matt glared at her, "You could wake him up."
"Maybe if you weren't so idiotic, ugly, and horrid," Lily retorted, "You would actually have been helpful in the games. If we hadn't been together, Ava would have killed guy in a minute."
"Oh for crying out loud," I grabbed the stick from Lily, slapped Matt, and stabbed Haymitch with the stick while screaming. "Stop fighting and try harder."
"AVA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD TRY TO WAKE ME UP WITHOUT DEAFENING AND CUTTING ME!" Haymitch screamed at me.
"Sorry, but the cameras are going to be here soon," I mumbled, staring at Ben. "And we need your advice."
"That's interesting," He said. "On what?"
"Well, Avalon here is a strange mute," Ben said, "And Matt and Lily can't stop fighting."
"Brr, you need to warm up a little," Haymitch said bluntly. "Everyone is expecting your little romance with each other to be serious, even though you are probably too young for all of that. So act like it."
"I'm going to get ready now," I walked out of the house, only to run into my friends Harry and Taylor.
"Hey Ava!" Harry grinned. "We are just here to see you off!"
"Yep," Taylor said. "Good luck!"
"Thank you!" I smiled widely at them. Me being able to bond more with them and Matt's sister has pretty much been the only good part of winning the games. Everything else was just weird. As I got to the house, my mother looked stressed as hell and my sister was clearly terrified.
"Avalon, we have visitors," Mom mumbled. "Come, I'll take you to him."
She showed me to a room and when I opened the door, I was terrified of who I saw.
