The werewolf genre is- according to Merriam Webster- is "a person transformed into a wolf or capable of assuming a wolf's form"[sic]. It quite literally means man-wolf, were(man) and wulf(wolf). Another known term for werewolf is derived from a Greek word lykos(wolf) and anthropos(human).
