After a brutal beating, Roman had finally decided to speak. Kaz pulled out a chair for Valentina so the both of them sat down, in front of the prisoner, Theoden standing behind them.
Roman looked at the three people that were staring at him. He lowered his head in shame but still hadn't started talking.
'If you don't start speaking soon the pain will continue,' said Valentina getting annoyed.
'Alright, alright...' he said after a couple of seconds of silence, 'can I get some water first?'
Valentina's eyes rolled to the ceiling. So demanding for a prisoner. Instead of getting Theoden to get a glass, she stood up herself. She poured a glass, and spilled half of the pitcher on the table. She handed it to him.
His weak and burnt hands shook trying to get the glass to his mouth. He finally got it up and drank. Half the water fell on his chin.
'Finished?' asked Valentina. He nodded a small, shy yes.
'I ... was a drunk, I was in a lot of debt towards many of the clubs in the city,' he said than stopped to take a breath. 'One night, about a year and a half ago, I was accosted in the street in the Barrel, and I was nearly beaten to death,' he stop to take another breath.
'And as I was lying there, in the street, Hiram Shneck found me. He brought me back to his house. He had a healer heal me. He said he'd pay all of my debts. I didn't realise there would be strings attached,' he said.
Theoden, out of the goodness of his heart got him another glass of water. The poor man struggled to get it up to his mouth but he was grateful.
'Once I was back on my feet he made me do all sort of things for him. After sixth months I wanted to get out of Ketterdam, but he wouldn't let me. He said I wasn't done owing him. He said that he had one final job.'
He took another sip of his water and then put the glass back on the floor. He winced as he got up and down.
'That's when I infiltrated the Dragons. He made sure you never saw me coming and that you would just think I was another one of your lackeys.'
Upon hearing those words, anger rose up inside of Valentina. She stood up grabbed a glass and threw it to the wall.
'How could I have been so stupid!' she thought to herself as she threw the glass against the wall. It shattered into a million little pieces.
Luckily for them, knocks were heard on the door. Leaving the glass on the floor, Valentina went to open it. It turned out to be Inej, Jesper, who had somehow found the girls and Feodora.
'You took your sweet time coming back,' she said.
'Your the one who disappeared over night, and then sent me off on a crazy assignment,' she said, hugging her.
