James climbed down the wet and slippery ladder in the dark slowly making sure he didn't slip and fall into the cold dark water of the English channel. he thought about what was to come, he would storm the beaches of Normandy and onwards into Europe until they reached Nazi Germany, the black heart of the third Reich. James's foot slipped bringing him back to reality the weight of his pack and gun brought him down, James closed his eyes waiting to be engulfed in the cold water. suddenly a hand shot out and grabbed James by the hand. "dying before you even see combat, sounds just like you James" said James' friend Sam, James felt a little embarrassed. "Yeah Yeah just pull me up already". James was pulled up and he gripped the ladder and climbed down more cautiously. James eventually climbed down into the Higgins boat with 35 other men waiting to disembark and make their way to the beach. The sun rising would be the signal to leave behind the carrier and start the invasion. Suddenly the huge guns on the ships in the fleet starting firing onto the beaches loud 𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘖𝘔! 𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘖𝘔! 𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘖𝘔! it was loud and powerful. finally it stopped and it was silent again "what could be left for us to fight after that!" said the person in front of James to his buddy. The grim expressions on the veteran's faces told James otherwise. James was only 17 and wildly unprepared for what was to come.
