Chapter 1

It was an early breezy Sunday morning in September when 11 year old Lyra Longbottom woke up. She was very excited because today she was going to hogwarts. She got out of bed with her heart bursting with joy. Lyra headed to the bathroom of her house at 11 Victoria Street in London. She brushed her long blond hair quickly, brushed her teeth, and took one look at herself in the mirror to see her sky blue eyes staring at her. She snapped out of her daze and rushed downstairs. She was in such a rush to get on the Hogwarts Express she ran past her dad and step-mom in the process. She was really excited, her sister and oldest brother had told her so much about it. And now she and her twin step-brothers Lorcan and Lysander Scamander were going to Hogwarts.

When her family finally caught up with her she was already to go to platform 9¾. When she got there she saw her best friend Lily Luna Potter or just Lily standing next to her cousin Hugo Granger-Weasley or just Hugo. They have been best friends since they were toddlers. And when her twin brothers came along they all stayed best friends adding those two. Hugo was also going to Hogwarts this year, but he didn't seem as excited as the others. He's that mellow laid back kinda guy that only gets riled up when he is ticked.

She ran to Lily and Hugo and gave them a big hug. She hadn't seen them for two weeks and for an 11 year old that is a long time. She towered over them like a giant since she was very tall for her age and Hugo had not hit his growth spurts yet. Lyra was kind of embarrassed at the height difference. She was already taller than her sister who was 3 years older than her and almost as tall as her oldest brother who is going to be a 5th year.

Her brother Frank was walking towards his girlfriend Roxy and gave her a big bear hug and her sister Alice was hanging with her friends who were the prankster duo James and Freddie. James and Freddie were almost as bad as their namesakes in the pranking and joking department. Mcgonagall has two special chairs just for them in detention. If you didn't know that friend group that well you would think that Alice was the innocent girl stuck with the wrong crowd and not know she was the mastermind behind most of the pranks and practical jokes the guys pull.

10 minutes passed and the Hogwarts Express Train blew its whistle telling us it will leave in 5 minutes. She quickly grabbed her bag with her robes and money for the trolley and headed to find an empty compartment she and her friends could sit in. She found one at the back of the train that had one other person in it, a girl. They introduced ourselves and she said her name was Ruby Gardener. Ruby was very pretty, she had light brown hair and eyes and a charming smile. She told them that she was a witch by family but her father was a squib so she knew nothing of magic because her father was very embarrassed by it. She was very polite as well. Lyra asked her if she would like to be their friend and she told them yes.

When the trolley lady came around they all got some candy. Lyra got some Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Botts Every Flavour of Beans. With the chocolate frog she got her fathers card, nothing she didn't already know there. And she got lucky with the beans. They all tasted pretty normal. Hugo's dad packed him a cornbeef sandwich as a joke that his dad and Uncle Harry found extremely funny but he still got some candy including Chocolate Frogs and added them to his and his father's chocolate frog card collection.

Halfway to Hogwarts the train conductor told them to get out their robes and put them on. The girls shooed the boys and told them to go to another compartment to change.

When they were all done changing and everyone was back they talked about summers and how they went even though some of them didn't know each other that well. Lily told how her family went to Romania to visit her Uncle Charlie and Aunt Claire and her cousins Sirius and Arianna for a few weeks and all the fun they had together for those weeks. Hugo told how he and his sister Rose got to sit in one of their mother's Ministry meetings which was an annual thing for those two. Lyra told how her family went to a muggle place called an amusement park for a few days in July as a birthday gift for her little brother Centi. Ruby said she was with her parents and little sister and went to Buckingham Palace and saw the changing of the guards. As they talked they didn't realise that they were minutes away from Hogwarts.

As the train slowed into the station and Lyra's heart was pounding like a drum. She was so excited she couldn't wait. When they got off the train Lily gave Hagrid a hug and told him her parents missed him. As all the first years got on the boat the gang split up; it was Hugo, Ruby, and Lorcan on one and Lily, Lyra, and Lysander on the next. They met up and saw Professor McGonagall and she gave the normal first year speech. When they walked into the Great Hall Lyra was hit with nerves like a ton of bricks. McGonagall started calling names to get sorted by the sorting hat. 

"Gardener, Ruby '' Shouted McGonagall, and soon the sorting hat called out "GRYFFINDOR!". Then it was Lily's turn and the hat called "GRYFFINDOR!" With cheers from her brother James and cousin Freddie she sat down at the Gryffindor table.

 Next was Lorcan who was a little of a hat stall, with the hat finally shouting out "RAVENCLAW!" 

Then his twin brother Lysander who took only a matter of seconds before the hat yelled "HUFFLEPUFF!"

 "Granger-Weasley, Hugo" said McGonagall and he sat down on the stool and she put the hat on his and after a couple of minutes the hat called "GRYFFINDOR!" 

Finally it was her turn to go get sorted, she walked up as her name was called and sat on the stool and McGonagall put the sorting hat on her head, she heard the sorting say " Another Longbottom huh? Could put you in Ravenclaw certainly got the smarts, maybe Hufflepuff like your mother you got a kind heart, or Slytherin you seem pretty creative, but I think Gryffindor is suited for your bravery". After a long silence the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!" and Lyra sat down at the Gryffindor table with Lily and Hugo.

Lily and Lyra watch as Hugo stuffed his face with chicken and other sweets. " Just like Uncle Ron." remarked Lily while Lyra giggled and snickered.

 "What! He is my dad after all." said Hugo.

"Yeah he's my dad too but do you see me eating food as if I've been starved?" said Hugo's sister Rose as she walked past with her best friend/enemy Scorpius Malfoy and Lily's brother Albus.  Scorpius had platinum blond hair and stormy grey eyes, Albus had shaggy black hair and bright green eyes, he was the spitting image of his father, Rose had dark, uncontrollable red hair and baby blue eyes. They were the "trio".

 "No! But do you see me flirting with a Malfoy." Hugo resorted. 

"That's a low blow even for you and I don't flirt with Malfoy." responded Rose with her teeth gritted and Albus snickering. 

Rose gave Albus and Hugo the death glare as Hugo resorted "Well you still associate with him. If I recall, His father and our dad have history, and not good at that. I wouldn't be caught anywhere near him if I were you." 

"I'm writing to Mum about this and hopefully you will have a Howler in the morning." she stormed off with teeth still gritted and fists clenched. 

"Hugo why would you say that to your sister." asked Ruby in a sweet voice, " and also what's a Howler?" 

"Oh you do not want to know and hope and pray that you never get one!" Lily said in a very serious tone. 

"I'll take your word for it." responded Ruby. 

"This happens a lot, the fighting I mean. Rose and Hugo are the best siblings there are but they also fight a lot." Lily stated.

After the feast the Gryffindor prefect led them to the 7th floor to the Gryffindor common room. They all walked in with astonishment and wide-eye. They found the girls' dormitories and then the first year's room. When they entered they found that their trunks were already there and stood there in amazement. When their shock was mostly gone they figured out sleeping arrangements but there was one extra bed. 

As they noticed a girl with long black hair walking in, "I think I'm the one you're missing. Nicole Smith at your service." she said with a play bow. 

"I presume you're one for the dramatics." stated Lyra. 

"Your presumption would be correct... uh?"

 "Lyra. Lyra Longbottom. This is Lily and Ruby, we will be your roommates for the next seven years, I guess." 

"Lovely to meet you all." stated Nicole, "I don't know about you guys but I'm exhausted." she said, yawning. 

"Yeah me too.'' They all said in unison and got ready for bed and drifted off to sleep in preparation for the first day of classes in the morning.
