“Are you ready? It's time.”"Yeah, Mum. I am ready. Let's go."
"Oh, honey, wait a second."
She proceeded to put kaala teeka behind my ears so that ‘mujhe kisi ki nazar na lage’.
We were about to leave when I saw that Dhruva was standing on the other side of the door."Dhruva!" I exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
"Wow! You look breathtakingly beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous."
I blushed and replied.
"Thank you! You look handsome. But you are not supposed to be here."He complimented my mom when he saw her exiting the room.
"Aunty, you are looking beautiful.""Thank you, beta! But go now before anyone asks questions. Mandap me mil lena." She teased.
He chuckled a bit but left.
I met Aaru around the corner.
“Chale?” She asked.
“Yes!”
“I am so excited!”
“Me too. It’s the first wedding in our group. That too a love marriage.”
“Yeah! Is Zia ready? Muhurat ka time ho raha hai.”
“I hope so. Let's go get Zia.”
“Yeah. We will need the bride for the wedding after all.”
My mother left us to go meet the others while we rushed to greet Zia. After knocking on her door, we entered.
“Oh, My God!”
“Wow!”
“You look gorgeous, Zee.”
“Absolutely gorgeous.”
“Aww. Thank you, guys. You both are looking beautiful too.”
We rushed to give her a tight hug.
Zia was dressed in a beautiful white lehenga with a forest green coloured blouse. Both the pieces had beautiful golden embroidery. Next, a heavy red dupatta was draped over to finish the look.
“You guys are going to make me cry,” Zia said while wiping her eyes. “I don’t wanna spoil my makeup.”
We had a quick laugh before we helped her with jewellery.
“Ready to be Mrs Sharma?”
Zia giggled nervously and replied, “Yeah! But I am feeling a bit nervous.”
“Why?” we asked.
“I don’t know. Wedding jitters, I guess.”
“Don’t worry. Priyank loves you so much. Sab mast hoga.”
“Yeah! I love him too.”
We teased her for a while. I cannot believe Zia and Priyank were the first ones to tie the knot in our group. But I guess it does make sense as they dated for more than four years now. We were done clicking a bunch of photos when her parents came in. Their eyes were glistening with tears but still managed to give us a smile.
“Girls looking beautiful.”
“Thank you! You both too.”
“Chalo. Let’s go. Muhurat ka time aa gaya hai.”
With that, all of us made our way towards the mandap. Priyank and the others were waiting for us. The guys were dressed in an embroidered sherwani. Priyank looked awestruck when he got the first glimpse of Zia. Zia wasn't any better.
As we reached near the mandap, Dhruva winked at me. I simply smiled and shook my head.
The ceremony was beautiful. We shed a few tears.
The decorations were splendid. The food was delicious.
We danced, sang and enjoyed the reception party.Later, it was time for bidaai. Even though we promised not to cry, our eyes became moist. After hugging us, Zia made her way to her family. Her parents and sister kept hugging her, refusing to let go. But, they had to. We took this chance to threaten Priyank.
"You better take care of Zia or else."
Everyone knew they were empty threats, but he still assured us with seriousness.
"Of course, I will. Don't worry."
With a few more rounds of hugs, they took our leave.
Marriages may have ups and downs, but these two were strong enough to deal with anything that came their way.
