Weeks went on of her roaming the land, Eden found places to stay on top of buildings, or in backyards. Benches or trees became her savior when her body ached too much to continue traveling. She kept to herself more, always calculated if she revealed her hiding spot. The best places that she could find involved being hidden from the naked eye. That even meant changing her form at night so she blended into the darkness. Anything keeping her inaccessible by human means unless easily noticed.
Going from being pampered for weeks to living on the streets was a change for Eden. In alley's the humans began to recognize her as the vampire woman from the sky. The other vampires would approach her for business or to satisfy their own curiosity only to be met with a very hungry vampire mother.
The humans began to see the potential of the woman and tried to recruit her into their ranks. Unbeknownst to them, she was already years ahead of their ranks. She fled every time anyone started to hunt after her, yet she internally fought the urge to go to the Vatican as best as she could. It beckoned as a place of refuge, but brought back more vivid night terrors. Occasionally some humans would see her outside, people would bring her food that never went uneaten, and water that never went undrank. She would smile and nod at the children or women as they gifted her the sustenance. Scientists became baffled at her actions that even eating normal food didn't turn her away and the fact that she only attacked hostiles yet left women and children alone. Nobody has ever seen her injured for any reason, yet any smart person could see she was scared of something. As if she was actually running from someone.
One night, a child had gotten lost in a town away from his parents. His brown curls covered the top half of his eyes as he ran from the very hungry methuselah chasing him. He might've been only around nine years old but he was smart. You had to be in order to survive in the current era of the vampire's reign. The boy would yell and taunt the vampires as he neared the town expecting he could hide somewhere.
The corner he turned around led him right into a corner with Eden. Some citizens who heard the commotion watched in horror of the boy and Eden before she knelt down to look into his face. Tears ran down his cheeks and his heart raced beneath the palm she placed on his chest. His eyes pleaded for help, and he ran into just the right person. Now, nearing thirty-four weeks along, Eden became more cautious with her fighting. Reserving as much as she could in order to keep the child safe. Nobody knew she was carrying a child, for Cain's coat around her body hid her round shape evenly.
Eden moved the boy to her front and glared at the men chasing him. "If you leave now, I won't kill you. But if you intend to bring harm to this boy I'll make you regret ever laying your eyes on him." She slowly began to remove the white coat from her body and cloaked the boy in it.
"Really bitch? You think you're any match to threaten us?" A few men snickered and moved closer to Eden.
She knew it was dangerous to do anything, and a side of her wanted to keep the boy from seeing anything too grotesque. Eden looked up with red eyes towards the men and spoke once more, "Leave now or you'll become a mockery to your kind as the many before you have."
The vampires laughed in Eden's face. As one reached out for the boy's arm, twelve black and red wings exploded from her back. She didn't care who saw, she was a mother in protection mode once again. The wings' ends became razor sharp, and as she clutched the boy to her body, she made him face her as a few wings wrapped around her, hiding them from anything as she sliced the men apart. A siren rang through the buildings as lights made their way towards the vampires. A few that fled were ambushed and some even caught. Hungrilly, Eden began to absorb the blood from the dead vampires cleaning up any bloodshed on or around them. Officers swarmed Eden as she didn't take her chance to escape when she should've. Soft curses left under her breath while she stood listening to the boy babble. This time she stayed with the boy as he told her about his cousin who lives in this town. And that he was not just a run away, but vampires invaded his home and killed his sister and parents. Eden's heart ached for the boy.
