Eden had her fingers curled into Abel's locks and herself twirled in his blanket as he lay without one on his body. They slept soundly, even Abel kept his left hand intermingled with Eden's hair as his right lay across his heart, his body firmly laying still, it was Eden who kept shifting, her dreams taunting her. That is if anyone could call them dreams.
They were filled with screams of millions of people, but one face that sat in the dark crying softly. Eden would continuously run towards the small figure only to watch the girl look up, the same look as her own, tears of blood streaming down her face. Each time Eden would reach out, she was pulled away by people with weapons of all designs, old and new, keeping her from comforting the young girl.
As even the girl reached out, her blue hazel eyes turned bright red and the child let out a horrid scream. The scream shook the nonexistent walls around them, but the bodies around them stopped mid movement and dropped to the ground. Every time this happened in her dream, Eden would rise up and attempt to make it towards the girl only to wake up seeing the face and voice that screamed one word.
'Mom.'
That word haunted Eden's subconsciousness until she could fall asleep again. Rolling around multiple times in order to get comfortable enough for sleep to claim her. Once again for the dream to repeat in a loop arose from the most hellish of tortures.
A soft knock on the door went unnoticed by the two, Eden was finally at peace and Abel still slept sound asleep like the rock he was. Esther stepped in with a tray of breakfast for the two and stared, she was unsure if she should wake them. She finally decided it was time to wake Abel up, the small tapping on his shoulder got his attention enough to look up.
The soft fatherly smile washed over his face, "Good morning, Sister." Abel shifted then looked over realizing his arm was stuck. Both Abel and Esther looked to the sleeping woman, her face stained red, along with their clothes. She was crying in her sleep, and Abel knew he couldn't stop any of it from continuing. Esther's face was more terrified at the state in which Eden lay, for she could've gone out in the middle of the night to feed, or even fed from Father Abel. It struck so much worry in Esther's body that she couldn't even avert her eyes from the woman. Abel, not shocked by it at all. He lifted her back with one arm then pulled his hand away from beneath Eden. By the time Esther's view of Eden was taken over by seeing Abel's back, he had a warm cloth and was wiping away the bloody mess left along Eden's face.
Eden finally stirred enough to look up at Abel's warm smile, her heart nearly skipped a beat at the sight. She sat up and hugged him much too quickly to realize who he was. She clutched his face to her chest, Eden pressed her lips atop of Abel's head. Inhaling his scent pulled her back to her senses, allowing her to acknowledge that it was not the person she thought of. Seeing the gray hair in her hand, her shoulders sunk into his large frame. "Abel, I'm sorry."
Abel paid it no mind. He hugged Eden back and stroked her hair a few more times before she pulled away, "It'll always be fine, Eden. You need to be more open with your emotions sometimes."
"You try and be in love with the world's enemy." Abel froze a minute from Eden's words then turned towards Esther who stood waiting patiently, moreso in hopes to see if Eden was alright.
"Alright, I understand. But, it wouldn't kill you to be more open about things. Bottling things up is not healthy in the slightest. And to hear you admit that you can hold more than hate in your heart..." The look on Eden's face made Abel's smile drop, "You know I'm speaking from my heart with a lot of personal experience, Eden. It hurts worse in the end." Esther kept silent, her eyes wandering to Abel's face. The pain in his eyes broke her heart, but the pain in his voice is what caught her off guard. Whenever his tone changed, it threw Esther off from her normal groove with his happy demeanor. Or maybe a mask he hid beneath instead.
