The stars danced in the sky and reflected in the lake before Mistie's eyes, mesmerizing her. Ed had been rambling on for the millionth time about Godzilla and how much the story has changed, something he became more passionate about as each new movie released. Mistie'd heard it all before and even though she had mostly ignored him, she was still picking up on key points, a tactic she used with most of her teachers. When Ed had sighed heavily, she turned her full attention toward him as she knew the ranting was now over. He clicked his phone on to check the time - 2:37am.
"Awe jeez, I'm gonna be so tired tomorrow at work. I'm supposed to be awake and ready by 5:30," he put his phone down and gazed upon Mistie, her black hair glimmering in the light of the moon, the white streak illuminated even moreso. He smiled warmly as he remembered her eyes the first day they had met. Once a very dull grey and now a very beautiful violet, he never grew tired of knowing that he was the reason she gained colour in those eyes again.
"But when I'm with you, I couldn't care less what the consequences of my actions are." Ed added.
"Oh, Eddie... Let's get you to bed." Mistie stood up, reaching her hand out to make sure Ed wouldn't get up and stumble into the lake - again... When Ed grasped her hand, he gasped.
"You're as cold as the dead bodies I examine - here," he took off his flannel and wrapped it around Mistie, wrapping his arm around her as they walked toward the overgrown forest path that lead them back to the streets, "I'll do my best to keep you warm, my dear." Mistie smiled up at Ed as they walked back but a small frown grew as she looked back down at her feet. I'm so sorry, my precious love. I don't have any idea how to tell you why I've gotten so cold... Mistie's heart ached as she thought about the ways he may react to the truth, but she knew he'd need to find out at some point. Just not tonight. When they had arrived back at Ed's place, she placed his flannel on the sofa as they walked up to the bedroom. Ed collapsed on the bed as Mistie crawled in beside him so she could lay with him while he fell asleep. He yawned and wrapped his arms around her waist, nuzzling into her chest - the BEST pillows on earth. It wasn't long before he was snoring away, Mistie's fingers running through his messy but soft hair. She smiled and kissed his forehead, carefully getting up so she wouldn't disturb his rest that he so desperately needed. She picked up his phone to ensure he had alarms on to wake him up, smiling at his lockscreen - him and her together on their little movie date. With a heavy sigh she placed his phone on his nightstand, leaned down to kiss his cheek one more time before she faded into the shadows and left the house without opening a single door. She gazed up at his room from outside before turning to look up at the sky - the moon was falling below the horizon and daylight would be soon. She had to retreat home and quickly. She started running back to her place, taking no more than 5 minutes compared to the usual 30. She was still trying to get used to all of this herself, stumbling over her own doorstep as she came to a stop. Slipping inside using the shadow trick she quickly grew to love and practice, she faded onto her bed and pulled out an old book she'd discovered in an odd library she had never noticed before. It had just been sitting in a back room, all by itself and on it's own little stand. The first time she opened it, a dark glow illuminated from it and Mistie's entire body began to tingle before she passed out and awoke once more but back home, the large tome in her hand. After she began reading the first few pages, which spoke of ancient vampires and how they'd been cast out of their village, they imbued their power with this book so anybody to open it would suffer the same curse they had. At first, Mistie wasn't believing it at all but as the days and weeks passed, her canines had sharpened and she began to discover that she could do a few things that a normal being wouldn't be able to do - like the dope ass shadow trick. She'd been studying the book every day since the book had warned her of the sunlight's toxic rays to a vampire so she avoided leaving her dark sanctuary.
The whole bloodthirsty thing was no trouble since she was able to feed on animals without killing them and if needed, she could go to a blood bank and pay them for some pouches.
Mistie grinned slightly as she read, amused at the new power she'd been granted. A curse, maybe because the amount of fear that others felt toward such a demon, but honestly it was pretty fucking cool. She'd consider this more of a blessing.
"If vampires exist, what about all the other creatures of the night?" She pondered as she flipped through the pages and skimmed the words, searching for any sort of hint to others similar to her, like werewolves or witches. She jumped when she heard a gentle knock at her bedroom door, causing her to scramble to put her book away before gaining her composure and answering the door, smiling warmly at her father. "Good morning, sir."
"I didn't hear you come in, Mistie. When'd you get home?" He looked around her room, "May I come in?" Mistie nodded as she stepped aside to let her dad come in as she moved to sit on her bed again, Dad taking a seat in her desk's chair.
"I came home around 3 or 4 this morning. Eddie stayed up past his bedtime again," she giggled.
"He's going to be one tired man," Dad shook his head, "I just hope he doesn't run himself into a burnout, those really suck." He chuckled softly.
"He's a big boy, Dad, I'm sure he knows what he's doing," she hugged one of her skull pillows to her chest, "How'd you sleep last night?"
"Oh. On and off," he sighed. Mistie pouted a little, tilting her head.
"What's up?"
"The usual shit."
"Mom." Mistie's face grew too serious. Her mother had meddled with them for so many years, despite even legal measures.
"It's fine, Mist," Dad stood up, shrugging his shoulders, "I've done what I can, she keeps finding us. I can deal with her if need be." Suddenly, Mistie's phone vibrated and lit up. A message popped on the screen from Mavis. Her dad walked over and gave her a brief hug before walking out, closing her bedroom door behind him.
